There is an estimated 25 people demonstrating outside the courthouse.

They have signs that say “Justice for Trayvon” and “Zimmerman Guilty.”

They are chanting “What do we want? Justice. When do we want it? Now”

Earlier a Black Panther group had a presser with about 6 to 7 people attending.

Yeah.
Imagine - associating the 'Reverend' Sharpton with civil unrest.
Quite the stretch.

Rev. Al Sharpton blasted the jury's verdict in the George Zimmerman trial tonight on MSNBC:
"Well, I think that this is an atrocity," said Sharpton. "I think that it is probably one of the worst situations that I've seen. What this jury has done is establish a precedent that when you are young and fit a certain profile, you can be committing no crime, just bringing some Skittles and iced tea home to your brother, and be killed and someone can claim self-defense having been exposed with all kinds of lies, all kinds of inconsistencies. ... Even at trial when he is exposed over and over again as a liar, he is acquitted. This is a sad day in the country. I think that we clearly must move on to the next step in terms of the federal government and in terms of the civil courts. Clearly, we want people to be disciplined, strategic. But this is a slap in the face to those that believe in justice in this country."

Way to try to keep the peace .... 'Reverend'.

Zimmerman lawyer to move ‘asap’ against NBC News

By Erik Wemple, Published: July 14 at 12:15 pm

Last night’s not-guilty verdict in the George Zimmerman trial will enable the neighborhood-watch volunteer to resume his case against NBC News for the mis-editing of his widely distributed call to police. Back in December, Zimmerman sued NBC Universal Media for defamation over the botched editing, which depicted him as a hardened racial profiler.
George Zimmerman

Here’s how NBC News, in a March 27, 2012, broadcast of the “Today” show, abridged the tape of Zimmerman’s comments to a police dispatcher on the evening of Feb. 26, 2012:

Zimmerman: This guy looks like he’s up to no good. He looks black.

The full tape went like this:

Zimmerman: This guy looks like he’s up to no good. Or he’s on drugs or something. It’s raining and he’s just walking around, looking about. Dispatcher: OK, and this guy — is he black, white or Hispanic?
   Zimmerman: He looks black.

NBC Universal Media responded to the Zimmerman complaint by noting that other media outlets played up the racial angle of Zimmerman’s deadly encounter with Trayvon Martin.

The company also noted the pivotal nature of the second-degree murder case: “f Zimmerman is convicted, that fact alone will constitute substantial evidence that the destruction of his reputation is the result of his own criminal conduct, and not of the broadcasts at issue which, like countless other news reports disseminated by media entities throughout the country, reported on the underlying events.”

That formulation is now null.

Yes, that formulation is certainly now null.
NBC's behavior was despicable.
NBC has some seriously deep pockets, and I hope the plaintiffs reach in up to their elbows.

JEANTEL WARNED ZIMMERMAN COULD BE GAY RAPIST
TRAYVON: NOT THAT KIND OF WAY

Tue Jul 16 2013 11:55:00 ET

Last night Trayvon Martin's friend Rachel Jeantel gave CNN her first interview since testifying in the George Zimmerman murder trial.

Jeantel opened up and let loose on the murder case that gripped that nation.

She explained to CNN's Piers Morgan how she warned her childhood friend that Zimmerman -- could be a gay rapist!

MORGAN: You felt that there was no doubt in your mind from what Trayvon was telling you on the phone about the creepy ass cracka and so on, that he absolutely believed that George Zimmerman, this man, you didn't know who he was at the time, but this man, was pursuing him?

JEANTEL: Yes.

MORGAN: And he was freaked out by it?

JEANTEL: Yes. Definitely after I say may be a rapist, for every boy, for every man, every -- who's not that kind of way, seeing a grown man following them, would they be creep out?

She continued:

"And people need to understand, he didn't want that creepy ass cracker going to his father or girlfriend's house to go get -- mind you, his little brother was there. You know -- now, mind you, I told you -- I told Trayvon it might have been a rapist."

Developing...

I didn't get the chance to see her testimony during the trial, so I was unaware of how truly eloquent she is - not to mention hot (and homophobic).

Wow.

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/os-george-zimmerman-doj-investigation,0,4338518.story

DOJ solicits email tips in Zimmerman civil rights probe

The U.S. Department of Justice on Monday afternoon appealed to civil rights groups and community leaders, nationally and in Sanford, for help investigating whether a federal criminal case might be brought against George Zimmerman for the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, one advocate said.

The DOJ has also set up a public email address to take in tips on its civil rights investigation.

Barbara Arnwine, president and executive director the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law – who earlier in the day joined calls for federal civil rights charges against Zimmerman, said that later in the afternoon, she joined a U.S. Department of Justice conference call to discuss the prospects.

“They were calling on us to actively refer anyone who had any information,” that might build a case against Zimmerman for either a civil rights violation or a hate crime, Arnwine said. “They said they would very aggressively investigate this case.”

Arnwine said the call was convened at about 3:30 p.m. by Tom Perez, Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division of the United States Department of Justice, and included representatives from the FBI, and several federal prosecutors, she said. DOJ officials also said they would open a public email address so people could send in tips on the case.

That email address, which is now in operation, is Sanford.florida@usdoj.gov.

In addition to Arnwine’s group, Sherrilyn Ifill, President and Director-Counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund; Laura Murphy, Washington Chapter head of the ACLU; and several national, Florida and Sanford-based “human relations” groups participated, Arnwine said.

During the call, DOJ officials announced they had set up a way for people to send email tips that could help aid in their investigation. The email address will be operational later this week.

George Zimmerman’s brother thinks Obama ‘tapped’ his phones
Quote :
Robert Zimmerman says that his family has not spoken to his brother, George Zimmerman, since he was acquitted for the murder of Trayvon Martin because President Barack Obama’s administration may be listening to their phone calls.

In an Tuesday interview on Fox News, Robert Zimmerman said that George Zimmerman’s parents had not spoken to or seen their son since the verdict on Saturday night.

“We do have concerns and always have of having our phones tapped, having our phones, you know, listened to by the administration or whomever because George is now as we know continually the subject of ongoing investigation.”

“So a lot of the things that we do are connecting in person, that’s how we’ve managed to stay hidden for so long, that’s kind of old school, but it works,” Robert Zimmerman added. “I have not spoken to him directly for the same reason.”

Pew survey of Zimmerman verdict tweets: 31 percent angry, 7 percent supported, most tweeted only news
Quote :

A Pew Research Center survey of tweets about the Zimmerman verdict within 26 hours of the end of the trial. (Pew Research Center)

According to a Pew Research Center analysis of 5 million tweets about the George Zimmerman murder trial verdict, nearly 40 percent of users tweeting about the case merely shared the news of the verdict, while nearly as many expressed an opinion about the outcome, and others criticized the media coverage.

Almost as many tweets offered views on the outcome. 31 percent of the tweets expressed anger at the verdict, while seven percent offered support. 11 percent of the tweets offered criticism of the media.

"The sentiments decrying the verdict were often emotional and frequently evoked a racial subtext, according to an analysis of the Twitter response to the trial outcome from 10 p.m. July 13 to midnight on July 14," Pew found. "Among that group, the largest component (15% of the Twitter reaction) was criticism of the criminal justice system, including charges that it is biased against African Americans. Another 14% accused Zimmerman of wrong-doing, such as deliberately profiling Martin. And 2% spoke of Trayvon Martin as an innocent victim."

Trayvon Martin’s Mother: Letting Zimmerman Go Is ‘A Terrible Message To Other Little Black And Brown Boys’
Quote :
he parents of slain teenager Trayvon Martin appeared on the Today Show Thursday morning to talk about their new focus after his killer, George Zimmerman, was found not guilty. The verdict has sparked massive protests all over the country and outpourings of grief from many prominent figures, not only over Trayvon’s death but over the implications it has for all black families.

Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin recognized the wider role their son’s death has had in exposing the justice system’s racial biases:

Is this the intent for the justice system to have for victims? It’s sending a terrible message to other little black and brown boys that, you can’t walk fast, you can’t walk slow. So what do they do? I mean, how do you get home without people assuming that you’re doing something wrong? Trayvon wasn’t doing anything wrong.

Quote :
Shortly after Trayvon’s death, his parents started the Trayvon Martin Foundation to give black communities educational and legal support while spreading awareness about racial profiling. Martin concluded, “Even though nothing we can say or do will get Trayvon back, maybe we can help someone else not lose their child.”

The right-wing response to the verdict has ranged from denying any racial bias to insisting that black men are rightfully considered suspicious.

This common bias is used to justify the fact that young black men make up 80 percent of drug arrests in the country, even though they use drugs at the same rates as whites. Black defendants also receive far harsher sentences than white defendants convicted of the same crime, and are much more likely to be wrongfully convicted for crimes against white victims. The New York Police Department also argues that officers target mostly African Americans because black men have a higher crime rate.

Meanwhile, crimes against black victims like Trayvon Martin often result in lighter sentences or even acquittal.

As a result, a black male teenager has a 32 percent chance of serving time in prison at some point in his life, while the rest of the community lives under a constant cloud of suspicion. Nor is this suspicion restricted to low-income communities. On Tuesday, Attorney General Eric Holder recounted how frequently he has been stopped by police — once when he was running to catch a movie in Georgetown, even though he was a federal prosecutor at the time.

The parents' attorney, Benjamin Crump, said they will consider a civil suit against Zimmerman, but did not confirm how their legal team will move forward in the months ahead.

"We'll look at all legal options. Right now, we'll ask the Department of Justice to answer ... 'Can a private citizen with a gun profile and follow our children home?'"

From a strictly legal standpoint, the answer is probably yes.

So Trayvon Martin swung first because he was able to read Zimmerman's mind?

He's said (in his mind) "Oh, I got cha'"

That's a new and interesting take.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/07/18/1224692/-So-Zimmerman-DID-Grab-onto-Trayvon

One of the key points of contention between the prosecution and defense during the trial of Zimmerman, who was acquitted of second-degree murder after killing the unarmed teen, was the question of who initiated the physical confrontation between the two.

Jeantel expounded on her thoughts on what occurred when Zimmerman and Martin met face to face. "I believe Trayvon hit first," she said. She went on to describe how she believed that Trayvon throwing the first punch was likely caused by Zimmerman attempting to grab and detain Martin.

Starting from that point:

Host: If Trayvon swung first, what do you think Zimmerman did to make him swing?

RZ: I think Zimmerman was a wannabe cop. He's said (in his mind) "Oh, I got cha'"

Host: You think he pulled his gun out?

RZ: No, I believe he trying ta...(slaps hands together)

Host : Grab him?

RZ : GRAB HIM. kay?  "I Got You. You're comin' wit me" And that's a teenager.  You did not say you're an officer. It's black, all black, the area was black. "Who are you, why are you touching me?"

Petition Calls For George Zimmerman's Concealed Carry License To Be Revoked
Quote :
More than 10,000 people have signed a petition calling on Florida officials to revoke the concealed carry permit of George Zimmerman, the man recently acquitted in the 2012 killing of unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin.

The petition, hosted at Change.org, suggests that Zimmerman's background makes him unfit to carry a concealed weapon.

Quote :
George Zimmerman is a dangerous, violent person. He has been accused of assaulting three people in addition to killing Trayvon Martin. He has even been arrested for assaulting a police officer! George Zimmerman should NOT be licensed to carry a weapon. One innocent person has already died at his hands. It is your job to not let another person be in danger!

Zimmerman was arrested in 2005 for "resisting an officer with violence" and "battery of a law enforcement officer." The charges were later reduced and ultimately dropped upon his entrance into an alcohol education program. Later that year, Zimmerman's ex-fiancee sought a restraining order against him over alleged domestic violence. He later filed a counter claim for a restraining order of his own, and both were granted. And in the wake of Zimmerman's 2012 arrest, allegations by a cousin emerged, claiming that he'd molested her for more than a decade.

Not a chance of this happening - there are no grounds for revocation.

Do you support the death penalty?
In certain cases I do,but not the way it is generally applied by certain states.

Which cases?
Which states?

Do you support vigilanteism?
Not usually. However,In this case I wouldn't mind seeing some gang banger take out Z* and then spend the rest of his life in jail. That would be the ultimate win-win situation for me.

Why do you support vigilantism in this case but not others?
And why is it that you want a man who is guilty of nothing to suffer and die soon?
If you believe in this so strongly, do you have the guts to remedy this problem yourself?
Why do you feel the need to rely on a gangbanger to do the right thing?
If killing George Zimmerman is the right thing to do, why is it that you lack the guts to do the right thing yourself?

Tampa to participate in Sharpton's nationwide Trayvon Martin rally Saturday
Quote :
Tampa is one of about 100 cities nationwide where protesters will heed the Rev. Al Sharpton's call for citizens to rally for justice for slain Florida teen Trayvon Martin on Saturday.

Sharpton's National Action Network is encouraging people to hold vigils outside federal buildings across the country to support a Department of Justice investigation into the killing of Martin, a 17-year-old who was shot in Sanford last year by neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman.

Zimmerman claimed self-defense and was acquitted of murder charges in the case last weekend.

The vigils are intended "to press the federal government to investigate civil rights charges" against Zimmerman, the National Action Network said in a statement.

The Tampa rally will be held outside the Sam M. Gibbons Federal Courthouse at noon. Several other cities, including Gainesville, Jacksonville and Miami, will also host protests.

Martin's mother, Sybrina Fulton, and his brother, Jahvaris Fulton, will attend the New York vigil with Sharpton, according to the National Action Network. His father, Tracy Martin, will attend the Miami rally.
Thank you Reverand Al for keeping Trayvon's memory alive as well as keeping killer Z* on the hotseat.

President Obama addresses Trayvon Martin killing
Quote :
President Obama is speaking live now. We will update.
10:43 AM PT:
Quote :
"Trayvon Martin could have been  me 35 years ago." President Barack Obama
— @BarbinMD
10:44 AM PT:
Quote :
Obama: "If a white male teen would have been involved in this scenario ... both the outcome and the aftermath might have been different."
— @mpoindc
10:42 AM PT:
Quote :
Obama: "There are very few African-American men who haven't been followed in a dept store. This has happened to me."
— @politicoroger

10:46 AM PT: Obama says DOJ and mayors should work together on training related to racial profiling.

10:47 AM PT: It's pretty clear President Obama read this Ta-Nehisi Coates guest column in the New York Times.

10:46 AM PT: Predictable anger from the right:
Quote :
If you ever had any doubts, Obama is the first Racist in Chief
— @DanRiehl

10:47 AM PT: Obama: "If Trayvon Martin was of age and was armed, could he have stood his ground on that sidewalk? And do we think he would have been justified in shooting Mr. Zimmerman, who had followed him in a car, because he felt threatened. And if the answer to that question is at least ambiguous, then it seems we need to rethink [Stand Your Ground] laws."
10:50 AM PT:
Quote :
President Obama has broken his silence to give some constructive advice on "where do we go from here?" #Justice4Trayvon
— @donnabrazile

10:51 AM PT: President Obama also says it's crucial to "do a better job helping young African-American men feel that they're a full part of the society and that they've got pathways and avenues to succeed."
10:52 AM PT:
Quote :
Obama is echoing the questions of many, many people. The sense that if Martin stood his ground, then he would be in prison right now.
— @jbouie

10:54 AM PT: Obama ends on a positive note, saying that while racism is not over, and while we don't live in a post-racial society, things are getting better, and with every successive generation, things get better. "Kids these days have more sense than we did," he says. "We're becoming a more perfect union. Not a perfect union, but a more perfect union." And the president exits the briefing room.
10:55 AM PT:
Quote :
BREAKING: Chief Justice John Roberts strikes down all of President Obama's comments on race.
— @LOLGOP
10:56 AM PT:
Quote :
what obama said: "We’re becoming a more perfect union."
what conservatives will hear: "Kill the white people"
— @owillis
POTUS summed it up nicely.

I would venture to say that the majority of Black Amercans have suffered despicable indignities for no other reason than the color of their skin.

Whether it being stopped or followed by the police for no reason, followed in a store for no reason, the frightening and deadly experience that Trayvon Martin suffererd at the hands of a sociopathic monster like Z*,or simply being unable to find a taxi that would stop for them.

Glad to see POTUS speaking out on these important issues.
