Warning: Gas Station on N/E corner f 173rd ST....

I have informed the county/Dept of Weights and Measures about inconsistencies in regard to low prices offered for gas, (since new owners from another country took over after the last owner was cited for selling water-filled gas to people whose cars were damaged)...that though their prices were a bit cheaper, it didn't register on my gas guage that I was getting the amount of gas for the price I paid.

I proved it to myself by going to another gas station (Speedway), later, when the prices were the same as the 173rd & Calumet Station. I got a lot more gas for the same price...my needle went way beyond what I paid for at the 173rd & Calumet Avenue gas station.

I told the owner of the 173rd & Calumet Ave gas station he is cheating customers. The pump runs so fast....it didn't seem right.

Today I went there to purchase a pack of cigs...the foreigner spoke broken English, pointing to a sign saying, "No cigs, license expired". I told him, if you do business in America, you better learn English and the rules that go with businesses. "This is America....if you don't know how to conduct a legal business, then you better learn English and abide by the laws!" I will never go to that gas station again.

My son recently told me the same story...getting less gas, paying less...but going to Speedway with the same price, got the proper amount.

I just want to warn you, until the city checks this out, stay away. I never got a response from Weights and Measures from the county. So - for the meantime, you've been warned. I'm not trying to put him out of business, whomever he is, but they don't understand English, so why do they get to cheat, and lie, and steal from us? Because they claim ignorance?

They also offer adult porn films, etc. Is that allowable by law, when kids go in with their parents?

Is it allowable by law, for a gas station to promote sexual things, and videos, etc. Are they covered by the city of Hammond to allow to sell those things without an additional licence, and are they aware of it?

Just asking. I have never in my life encountered a gas station with signs in the window where you pay, displaying they have porn videos for sale. Is this legal?

Is this something that requires a different license? Is there a law saying we don't understand Arabic, whatever you are, so therefore, if you run a business, can't speak English, who the hell did you pay off to pose as YOU that can't relate to English-speaking customers.

Being an immigrant legally without knowing English...how did they pass the Constitutional test? We couldn't pass high school unless we passed the Constitutional test. These guys, where do they get the license, if they know no English? I want in on the deal

I refuse to buy from them anymore...gas or cigs. They can go out of business for all I care. If they can't keep up with the license on anything, they should be temporarily shut down and checked out.

Their gas pumps definitely need inspection.

You know as soon as I saw the title I had a funny feeling a "foreigner" was going to be involved.

Maybe it's a new trend.

Artie, quit fluckin' with me...when the new owners took over last year I think, there was a young kid who spoke English, and wanted to know if I wanted to buy a (porn) film. I just flipped it off...he told me, "If you come back, I give you deals on whatever, can't remember what it was).

When they first re-opened, they had signs up exposing gas prices way lower than any other station.

I was only there twice during the winter, taking advantage of his low prices, but noticed the gas guage didn't go up like it normally did - something was wrong. I mentioned it to my son early this past month, GEEZE, the needle doesn't move for a half a tank, it only gives you a little more than a fourth of a tank. That's when he said he avoids it - that he didn't trust the amount of gas he paid for.

I came back, later, noticed his prices were the same as Speedway, and for the half tank I put in and paid for, I got the half-tank of gas at Speedway.

That kid is gone from the 173rd & Cal Ave. location, now taken over by I guess the real owner...I hadn't patronized the place in quite awhile, but this a.m., instead of speaking English, I thought I wasn't hearing right, he was mumbling, and pointed to a sign saying, "NO CIG SALES/LICENSE EXPIRED".

I don't care if you are an immigrant, but by gosh, my question is, do you need separate licenses to sell PORNO movies, T-Shirts, Shoes, etc., if you are in the gas station business?

Also they post you can't purchase anything with a debit/credit card unless you spend 10.00 which is against the law, nation-wide.

If you don't believe me, as the "Fixer". You're suppose to report it to the credit card issue that you were denied purchasing less than 10.00, and they will withdraw the credit priviledges from the businesses because it's against the law to force anyone to spend a certain amount of money that they don't want to spend.

Proof in the pudding: I argued with a certain business in Hammond, by Stateline Road, the popuar drive-thru cig stand. For years, they demanded you had to charge at least 10.00 - and would refuse to take your debit/credit card if you only wanted a pop, a pack of cigs...I printed out the
"FIXER's" column how this is against the law. They didn't care. The businesses have to pay 50 cents I believe on transactions, so I guess, most people that went there, got fed up.

They suddenly changed it last year, where you can purchase a pack of cigs, not forced to buy 3 when you only want one. Every business I encounter that refuses to accept even my debit card from the bank, I report to the credit card companies. What they do is, tell the owner they are in violation and threaten to take away the credit card priviledge, thus their sales go down.

Back to the topic. I don't care if you are an immigrant. We are all decendants of immigrants. Follow the law, or get the hell out. That is my point. If you are so well-informed business-wise, you wouldn't allow your license to lapse.

And you need a translator if you want to live in America and expect America to patronize you, if you don't know English, and have to resort to pointing at signs, and not be able to communicate with English speaking patrons. There, got it off my chest.

Perhaps it is up to Hammond city officials to check out the site and see if appropriate licenses are paid for and issued for them to sell stuff outside of gas, which they cheat you on.
