Hey, Artie. Don't fret...he as well as his office are under the FEDS. They are looking at his "cook-books"/ see what happens when you complain to the right people? afro

I feel vibrations that you, too, are not so fond of Mr. Toddler, right? Gosh, Artie, wouldn't you agree with me, that they can throw all the money at Illinois, it will still get mis-spent, no matter who is in charge?

I don't even like Quinn. He doesn't know what the hell he's doing. What's those other two - Cullerton and the guy who outlived his office? Oh, Madigan. He definitely needed a term limit.

They're all crooks in Crook County. Give me a name of one honest politician. I really am not aware of any.

In the other thread I thought you were defending the wonderfully re-electable County Board President Todd Stroger? Razz

My first thought when I saw the title was Gary, IN and the grocery store. Then other mismanaged projects started coming to mind. The benefit of all this so-called stimulus money is dependent on it actually going towards sound projects rather than mostly heading into someone's personal bank account. I think we can agree on that much.

No,I was defending the right of Black ministers to endorse him. I don't like Todd Stroger at all. I voted for him,but held my nose as I did.

Hey anybody can endorse anybody they want to. The point is that if being black is a qualification for getting that endorsement it is racist. What if a predominantly white group boldly proclaimed that only a white would get their endorsement? You'd start comparing them to the KKK before even considering why they felt that way. Who knows? Maybe whites would be being underrepresented. Very Happy

As for holding your nose I don't buy that. I think you must be one of those people who just vote a straight party ticket no matter who's on it. If so that's a shame because you don't really vote based upon who would be the better office holder.

There is no evidence to support that.

I've voted for Repubs once in while. Unfortunately, with the wingnuts now in full control I don't foresee voting for any of them anytime soon.

Point is, Artie...you admit now, voting for Stroger, "holding your nose". If it came to that, I myself would NOT endorse the person. I would vote for who was best suited for the job. Forrest Claypool had to chase the voting box (cotaining the results) to downtown...it was fixed.

If you didn't like any of the candidates, why did you support Stroger? I know why. You didn't bother researching. It was about his skin color, say it.

I assume that's your meaning since they are the ones in control.

Because if all of them are evil in your eye, you should have refrained for voting for any one of them. That's giving support to NO ONE.

I saw that article several weeks ago, and am sure it was in the Sun-times. Gonna look at the archives. They demanded that a black be elected to replace Toddler. This is well before any announcements started rolling in as to who was going for the seat.

Black Ministers, especially Louis Farrakhan, who resides in Indiana, has no business in politics, because he doesn't reside there. Lastly, religion and politics don't mix.

Self-proclaimed Rev. Jackson had a baby outside his marriage. So, why should he even call himself a Reverend. Rev. Sharpton has recently been exposed in the "Watchdog" a few days ago, as having some really nasty political tactics to get money alloted to him. He is now under the scope of the FEDS.

I don't trust any of those ministers who think Todd should be elected. They are simply criminal "showboaters," in disquise. Todd will stand on their shoulders and sent money their way . That's what it is all about.

As Mirage said, it seems the political machine operatives want to dictate what color goes in what seat. They demanded that with Burris. They needed that African American, in that seat. Remember? afro

http://www.chicagotribune.com/topic/wgntv-black-ministers-to-endorse-stroger-oct13,0,1196209.storyCHICAGO - Cook County Board President Todd Stroger's office says, 300 black ministers will endorse Stroger's re-election bid later today.

The group includes Minister Louis Farrakhan and Rev. Clay Evans.

The ministers met two weeks ago to endorse what they call a "consensus" black candidate.

http://newsblogs.chicagotribune.com/clout_st/2009/09/africanamerican-ministers-find-endorsement-elusive-in-cook-county-board-president-contest.html
Congressman Danny Davis, Alderwoman Toni Preckwinkle, and Circuit Court Clerk Dorothy Brown are all challenging Stroger.

*************************

Stroger showed up at the session’s conclusion, then mingled with ministers, saying he heard about the meeting and decided to stop by.

“I think in government there should be an African American who is at the top,” Stroger said before making a reference to the influence of his post. “So, I think there should be some unity behind a candidate. A good candidate. Me.”

Then he flashed his trademark grin and laughed.

“This is not about person,” Tyson said. “This is not about personality. This is about whose best going to service us and who has the best possible chances of being elected against the forces of evil.”

Tyson said the ministers are not only worried about losing the county board presidency, held by black politicians for nearly 16 years, but also about a potential cascade of losses in other races with African-American incumbents.

None of them attended that meeting.

They say it was intentionally stacked with Stroger supporters.

A Chicago Tribune poll last month put Stroger's approval rating at just 10 percent.

Here's a copy of the comments following the last link I supplied up there under the Chicago Tribune's "Watchdog Group". So you see what directions the ministers' endorsement went, when they insist a black take the seat against "all evils"? Sad, Artie. Sad.

didn't this last racially motivated endorsment cause the whole stroger problem? i never realized there was any "color" requirement associated with this seat. Think of the outrage if white ministers did the same.

alan on September 29, 2009 9:20 PM

Well ehf has stated the problem . Now just how do we solve it with out being called a racist? I would say to just ignore the ignorant and use our voting power to make the changes necessary so we have a government that is BY THE PEOPLE; FOR THE PEOPLE, no matter what race or religion they happen to be: and of course they must be citizens of this great country. But that is another problem we have to solve!

Ed McGuinness on September 29, 2009 9:35 PM

Todd should have read Royko's book: "Don't back no losers, don't make no waves". Just a couple of the pearls of wisdom in that book could have saved him. As it is he violated just about every rule. He's done.
WD on September 29, 2009 9:38 PM

HOW ABOUT LOOKING AT THE MERITS INSTEAD OF THE RACE ALONE? WE ALL HAVE TO REMEMBER THAT THE PRESIDENT WILL HAVE TO PROTECT THE INTERESTS OF ALL OF US, NOT ONLY BLACKS AND NOT ONLY WHITES.

Barney Rubble on September 29, 2009 9:47 PM

Ok lets reverse the story.

"More than 250 white ministers met to endorse a white candidate for Cook County board president on Tuesday, but the lack of consensus only served to illustrate the difficult political dynamics".

Would this this be allowed to pass without being called out as racist? Why is this double standard acceptable?

Amy on September 29, 2009 10:26 PM

Why don't these black ministers (and I'm saying black because it was so prominently noted in the story) stay the heck out of politics and focus on their churches. I am tired of people using religion for financial gain and that's what this is. Ridiculous.

MikeinChicago on September 29, 2009 11:03 PM

Barney Rubble YOY NAILED IT ON THE HEAD "More than 250 white ministers met to endorse a white candidate for Cook County board president on Tuesday, but the lack of consensus only served to illustrate the difficult political dynamics".

"Would this this be allowed to pass without being called out as racist? Why is this double standard acceptable?"

In my words It shouldn't be accepted or tolerated, But we live in Chicago/Cook County. It gets a Pass in the area. I remember when Toddie got "Selected" to fill his father's shoes, a few Elected Black Officials stated that if its OK for the (white) Daley family, why shouldn't we(black) do it too. Now look at the mess we are in.

DJ on September 29, 2009 11:06 PM

Didn't Martin Luther King dream of a day when a man wouldn't be "judged by the color of his skin...but by the content of his character"????
Black ministers meeting to discuss which black candidate that they want to endorse is simply a racist action.
"True equality can never exist in a society with double standards"

Greg on September 30, 2009 12:04 AM

What difference does it make! Whomever they pick is going to succeed. Do you think there is anyone more clueless that "Steve Erkl" Stroger?
Dean on September 30, 2009 1:53 PM

The black ministers must not have a viable person for the position of Cook County Board President. Are they interviewing these people to see what they can get, just like the last gov blago did. Sounds like it.

Oh, like Stroger, cutting the services from Oak Forest? Oh, like Stroger's POET inside the Unemployment Office that only employed relatives or connected friends, instead of the people who POET's purpose was meant for, ya know, regular people off the streets qualified to fill state jobs?

Um, what exactly has Stroger done for the people except raise taxes, cause businesses to flee Crook County, and have the FBI/Feds ransack his office?

Oh, wait, he did help some busboy.

Can't you just look at his face and KNOW the toddler knows crap about what he is President of????? He'll lose by a land-slide.

Forrest Claypool ran on the platform that Stroger was crooked. Stroger and his voter couting cronies stole boxes and boxes of votes and Forrest went flying downtown that night, trying to find out what they were doing with the resulted votes.

Crook County is a useless office full of waste and corruption. Sort of like the township halls. Everyone should get rid of county gov't in every state.
