I knew before even reading past the headline that this would make liberals cry.
It certainly doesn't take much, does it?

What’s the Deal With This 9 mm Handgun Casually Engraved With the Word STAND?

By Ruth Graham
Feb 09, 20187:45 AM

Exciting news from the world of guns: New Hampshire–based firearms manufacturer Sig Sauer has issued a new 9 mm handgun with the word STAND emblazoned along the slide.* The special-edition P938 also features a laser-engraved American flag “draped” over the top, and another flag image on the grip.
How to interpret this mysterious rune? Is it red America’s version of the Apple Watch reminder to stand up and move around every hour? Is it a reference to a work of literature by Stephen King or Teresa Giudice? A tribute to the 30th anniversary of a hit from R.E.M.’s major-label debut?
The company itself says the handgun is meant to “inspire patriotism” and to give gun owners a way to “show your unwavering support for the flag and for America’s National Anthem.” Nothing shows “unwavering support” for a political opinion like purchasing a themed gun, which is why I have a rifle etched with the words PAID FAMILY LEAVE.

In a promotional video for the new weapon, a Sig Sauer representative says, “The STAND is the obvious choice to represent the heritage and tradition of American citizens who proudly stand for our great American flag.” OK! An unspecified portion of the proceeds will be donated to an organization that works with wounded veterans and to another that helps families and co-workers of police officers killed on duty. (Last year, 46 police officers were fatally shot in the line of duty, a near-record low; police shot and killed 967 people, including 68 who were unarmed.)
Meanwhile, for some reason firearms aficionados have read a more specific meaning into the P938’s enigmatic design. Gun blogs are touting the weapon as a “dig at those in the NFL who have spent the last year attempting to derail our patriotism” and “a swipe at anthem-kneelers.” “Why engrave ‘STAND’ on the slide? Who doesn’t stand for our country or what it represents?” a writer at the Firearm Rack asks. “Well, NFL players come immediately to mind.” Meanwhile, some #patriots online have enthused that purchasing the $815 weapon is a good way to trigger the libs.

Listen, it would be condescending to everyone to spend much time explaining why the libs might be triggered by the existence of a firearm that essentially shouts a politically charged command at whomever it points. For what it’s worth, Colin Kaepernick, cited by name in a few references online to the P938, has said that he received death threats for kneeling during “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
The gun is also ugly.

"For what it's worth" it might be a good idea to realize that Colin Kaepernick didn't said a word regarding this gun. Instead his name was "cited" by those same less than well endowed gun nuts.

I'm not sure what else you believe you posted, but I see by your meme that you've managed to bring the conversation full-circle back to your favorite topic -  the penis.

Looks like I'll need to revise and upsize my estimate of your daily penis-pondering.
Wherever do you find the time for such things, Rachel?

All of these factors have led law-enforcement experts from both academic and official backgrounds to conclude that by far the most lethal threat to police officers in the United States today from radical extremists actually arises from sovereign citizens and related far-right extremists – the vast majority of whom, though not all, are white people.

There’s no evidence that Sheriff Clarke or any of his fellow pundits eager to blame mainstream black activists for the murders of police officers in recent weeks have ever spoken out against white sovereign citizens and their ceaseless assaults on policemen and other first responders. But then again, Clarke himself is closely affiliated with a right-wing extremist “constitutionalist” sheriff’s group that believes, like sovereign citizens, that its members don’t have to obey federal laws.

That could explain the peculiar silence from Clarke, at least, about the threat posed by sovereign citizens. It doesn’t explain the silence from his “law and order” right-wing cohorts, however.
Far-right extremists are quietly murdering police officers
Quote :
Data shows dozens of officers have been murdered by the far-right over the last decade. But no one seems to be talking about it.

All Officer Justin Martin wanted to do was help.

Early in the morning on November 2, 2016, the 24-year-old was on patrol in the suburban town of Urbandale, Iowa. He was still fairly new to the town’s police department but, according to colleagues, he loved the local community and serving on the force.

But as Martin drove by the Urbandale High School football stadium, bullets suddenly started to fly. He was struck multiple times and killed in his patrol car. The exact sequence of events has never been definitively established; based on the crime scene, police speculate that Martin had seen a car pulled over as he passed the high school. Believing it to be a stranded driver, he made a U-turn to assist them, and was shot as he did so. Martin didn’t even have time to un-holster his weapon.

“I called him a kid but [Justin] was the kind of man you wanted your kids to turn out to be,” Sergeant Chad Underwood of the Urbandale Police Department told ThinkProgress. “He had been an Eagle Scout and he carried that into his work. I can’t express how much of a fine young man he was,” Underwood said. “He was exceptional.” He added that Martin was the first line of duty death in the department’s 100-year history.

But the nightmare for local law enforcement didn’t end there. Just 20 minutes later, Sergeant Anthony Beminio, 38, of the Des Moines Police Department was shot and killed a mile-and-a-half away. Like Martin, he was ambushed as he sat in his patrol car. Underwood said authorities believe Beminio hadn’t gotten word of Martin’s killing by the time he was shot.

A few hours later, police took 46-year-old Scott Michael Greene into custody for the two murders. Greene was known to police and had a record of far-right agitation, like waving a Confederate flag around at a high school football game or calling a man the N-word and threatening to kill him.

Last May, Greene was sentenced to two life terms for the killings of Officers Beminio and Martin.

The shootings that stunned the quiet Iowa suburb that November represent just two of the nearly three dozen law enforcement officers in the U.S. who have been killed by far-right extremists in the last 10 years alone. Data gathered by ThinkProgress shows that between 2007 and 2017, at least 33 officers were shot by individuals either actively involved with or affiliated with far-right extremism. These include white supremacists, sovereign citizens, and lone wolf attackers.

The data shows that far-right extremists pose a consistent threat to law enforcement, particularly in more rural areas away from the national media spotlight. But even at a time of renewed focus on the far-right, discussion of these killings has been muted.

“People don’t understand that these law enforcement fatalities are perpetuated by people with violent ideology, who’ve had a lot of time to think, plan, and rehearse,” Daryl Johnson, a former senior Homeland Security analyst and current consultant on domestic terrorism, told ThinkProgress. “Traffic stops, evictions — these are spontaneous encounters and law enforcement are caught off guard. [Right-wing extremists] think God’s on their side and police officers are evil representatives of the government.”

Of the 23 separate attacks examined between 2007 and 2017, close to half (10 killings, or 44 percent) were carried out by white supremacists, with anti-government extremists responsible for six, and sovereign citizens three. Eleven officers were killed during police ambushes, nine when they were raiding a house or serving a warrant, and six during a shootout. Florida had by far the most incidents of any individual state — five. Colorado, Louisiana, Utah, and Pennsylvania each had two.

“If you take the number of far-right extremist-related murders and compare to the total number of U.S. murders it’s insignificant,” Mark Pitcavage, an expert on right-wing extremism for the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), told ThinkProgress. “But if you take the far-right murders of law enforcement and compare that like-for-like [with the total number of law enforcement officers killed] it’s a much more substantial minority. They would be a slice of the pie on those murders.”

The self-radicalized, lone wolf-style attacks often seen in modern extremism can make it difficult to differentiate between attacks where individuals are following a particular ideology versus those where an individual may show some clues of extremist sympathies, but may have also been driven by other motivating factors. Even organizations that closely track these killings, like ADL and the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), sometimes disagree whether an attack was an example of extremism or not.

“It may have been that way 20 years ago when people get indoctrinated [in person],” Johnson said. “[But] we’re living in an age now where people get radicalized over the internet, where people are coming to construct their belief system.”

ThinkProgress’ tally also includes four corrections officers, killed in three separate attacks. The nature of the killings and perpetrators — specifically, the fact that the officers were killed by individuals with direct ties to white supremacist prison gangs — merits their inclusion.

I believe that the police should honor the request of the store owners, and should never enter the store again - especially if the owners dial 911.

Oakland coffee shop says it's keeping the peace by not serving cops
By Amir Vera, CNN

Updated 10:07 PM ET, Fri March 9, 2018

Owners of Hasta Muerte Coffee told an Oakland police officer to leave because they have a policy of asking cops to leave for the "physical and emotional safety" of customers.
The worker-owned coffee shop and self-proclaimed radical book store refused service to a uniformed police officer February 16 and is defending its policy because the California business believes, as it said in an Instagram posting, "police presence compromises our feeling of physical & emotional safety."
The officer who was turned away is a sergeant and president of the Latino Police Officers Association of Alameda County, according to CNN affiliate KCRA. He told KCRA he was surprised he was refused service, and he walked out without incident. The officer was not named in the KCRA report.
Attempts to reach coffee shop personnel and officials with the Oakland Police Department were unsuccessful Friday.

The department tweeted on Thursday that it "respects business owners right to serve anyone they choose" and that police officials along with other community members are "reaching out to the business to have constructive dialogue in our efforts to unite our community."

Hasta Muerte Coffee's owners posted to their Instagram, stating they had "a policy of asking police to leave for the physical and emotional safety of our customers and ourselves." They went on to accuse the police department of having a history of "corruption, mismanagement and scandal" along with a "legacy of blatant repression." The owners also said the shop needs the support the community, not the police, to keep their business safe. The shop also posted a photo of other posts criticizing its decision with the words "not my president" plastered over them.
The officer's race or his affiliation with a Latino organization meant nothing, the shop's post said, and the department's "short term touting" of having less officer-involved shootings didn't erase the department's history.
"The facts are that poc (people of color), women, and queer police are complicit in upholding the same law and order that routinely criminalizes and terrorizes black and brown and poor folks, especially youth, trans, and houseless folks," the post read.
Hasta Muerte Coffee's name is Spanish for "until death." The shop began raising money to fund its opening in late 2016 through the crowdsourcing site KickStarter. The business has shared a space with another tenant since its founding, but opened its own building in November 2017.

2 Florida deputies fatally shot in Gilchrist County

jgilmour@mcclatchy.com

April 19, 2018 08:38 PM

Updated 16 minutes ago

Two Florida deputies were shot and killed Thursday around 3 p.m. at a restaurant in Trenton, Florida.

A gunman fired through the wind of Ace China, hitting two Gilchrist County deputies who were eating there, the sheriff said. When other deputies got to the scene, the shooter was dead outside, according to the sheriff’s office. Both of the deputies were found dead as well.

Gilchrist County Sheriff Bobby Schultz named the two deputies as Noel Ramirez, 30, and Taylor Lindsay, 25. Schultz spoke at a news conference Thursday night, describing the two as “the best of the best.”

Schultz stood with other Florida law enforcement officers during the press conference. Schultz said the deputies' deaths weren't a political issue, but asked: “What do you expect happens when you demonize law enforcement to the extent that it's been demonized?”

State, county police take over Ferguson protest security after shooting

By Greg Botelho, CNN

Updated 4:59 PM ET, Thu March 12, 2015

(CNN)[i]With tensions running high after the shooting of two officers in Ferguson, Missouri, state and county police are once again taking over protest security in the St. Louis suburb.
St. Louis County Police and the Missouri State Highway Patrol will "assume command of the security detail regarding protests" at 6 p.m. (7 p.m. ET), St. Louis County Police said in a statement.
Ferguson Police will remain responsible for "routine policing services" in the city, the statement said.
The takeover comes less than a day after two police officers standing guard outside Ferguson police headquarters were shot in what St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar called an "ambush," spurring a manhunt for those responsible for targeting the line of officers.
"We could have buried two police officers," Belmar told reporters. "... I feel very confident that whoever did this ... came there for whatever nefarious reason that it was."
The shots rang out shortly after midnight, at the end of a protest against the Ferguson Police Department. That department has been under fire since one of its officers, Darren Wilson, shot and killed black teen Michael Brown in August, and more recently since a scathing U.S. Department of Justice report came out documenting a pattern of racial discrimination.
