Quote :
Obama's Poll Numbers Are Falling to Earth

Polling data show that Mr. Obama's approval rating is dropping and is below where George W. Bush was in an analogous period in 2001. Rasmussen Reports data shows that Mr. Obama's net presidential approval rating -- which is calculated by subtracting the number who strongly disapprove from the number who strongly approve -- is just six, his lowest rating to date.

Overall, Rasmussen Reports shows a 56%-43% approval, with a third strongly disapproving of the president's performance. This is a substantial degree of polarization so early in the administration. Mr. Obama has lost virtually all of his Republican support and a good part of his Independent support, and the trend is decidedly negative.

A detailed examination of presidential popularity after 50 days on the job similarly demonstrates a substantial drop in presidential approval relative to other elected presidents in the 20th and 21st centuries. The reason for this decline most likely has to do with doubts about the administration's policies and their impact on peoples' lives. ...

... Recent Gallup data echo these concerns. That polling shows that there are deep-seated, underlying economic concerns. Eighty-three percent say they are worried that the steps Mr. Obama is taking to fix the economy may not work and the economy will get worse. Eighty-two percent say they are worried about the amount of money being added to the deficit. Seventy-eight percent are worried about inflation growing, and 69% say they are worried about the increasing role of the government in the U.S. economy.

When Gallup asked whether we should be spending more or less in the economic stimulus, by close to 3-to-1 margin voters said it is better to have spent less than to have spent more. When asked whether we are adding too much to the deficit or spending too little to improve the economy, by close to a 3-to-2 margin voters said that we are adding too much to the deficit.

Support for the stimulus package is dropping from narrow majority support to below that. There is no sense that the stimulus package itself will work quickly, and according to a recent Wall Street Journal/NBC poll, close to 60% said it would make only a marginal difference in the next two to four years. Rasmussen data shows that people now actually oppose Mr. Obama's budget, 46% to 41%. Three-quarters take this position because it will lead to too much spending. And by 2-to-1, voters reject House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's call for a second stimulus package. ...

... And although a narrow majority remains confident in Mr. Obama's goals and overall direction, 45% say they do not have confidence, a number that has been growing since the inauguration less than two months ago. With three-quarters saying that they expect the economy to get worse, it is hard to see these numbers improving substantially. ...

Gallup poll shows a steady 61% approval rating.
Go ahead, look it up.
Gee, too bad the conservative fish wrapper, the WSJ, convenietly ignores other polls.

GOP Congressional Leaders' Ratings Hit New Low - 28%
There are no signs in the poll that Republican congressional leaders are benefiting from the public’s concern about major economic policies. In fact, approval of Republican congressional leaders has fallen from 34% in February to 28% currently, the lowest rating for GOP leaders in nearly 14 years of Pew Research surveys. Republicans, in particular, have become less supportive of their party’s leaders in Congress: just 43% of Republicans approve of their job performance, down from 55% just a month ago. By contrast, nearly half of Americans (47%) approve of the job Democratic congressional leaders are doing.

In addition, no single Republican figure, either in Congress or elsewhere, has emerged as the party’s leader. When asked who they think of as the leader of the Republican Party, 73% either say they do not know (58%), or volunteer that there is no leader (15%). John McCain is mentioned most frequently, but just 11% name the Arizona senator as leader of the Republican Party.

Personally I couldn't care less about these poll numbers. What's the point? This President & Congress are gonna keep on ripping us off at least until the next election no matter what the polls say or who's polls you cite.

So you feel all warm & fuzzy watching the country go down the tubes? You can't possibly think this President and Congress are doing a good job.

Now if you are celebrating a diminishing of the Republicans who are of a like mind to this President and Congress I welcome that!

Of course not. That's why Obama and Democrats were elected overwhelmingly.

Last time I checked there were only about 3 of them. Snowe,Collins, and Spector. Talk about an endangered species in the GOP Shocked Hopefully the wingnuts in your party will sabotage them and Democrats can pick up their seats too. Razz

No, they won because they lied. There is a difference. $trillions in deficit spending in less than 3 months and nothing's really fixed at all.

Is the banking system now secure? I say no.

The ink wasn't even dry on the stimulus package before they began talking about another. And now they are telling states to get in a hurry about spending their share of it or lose it. That's never a good thing to tell a government entity to spend money quick.

And now comes the bloated budget - god help us!

Obama has a plan and he's put it in place. OTOH,I have yet to hear anything coherent from the GOP. All I hear is a lot of whining while they play to their diminishing base and continue their freefall to obscurity.

What's the GOP's big story today? A catfight between Megan Mccain and Laura Ingraham about McCain dissing Ann Coulter. How dare anyone speak ill of that nutcase! Is it any wonder reasonable people are deserting your party like it's the Titanic?

Not at all. It's being covered extensively on cable news now. Here we have a moderate R (Megan McMain) speaking out against a right-wing nutjob like Couter and immediately hate radio and meat puppets like BillO come to Coulter's defense.

This is exactly the kind of behavior that is causing moderates and independents to run as far away from the GOP
as they can.
