Janiec to be secretary of Lake county Republicans

Curley is backing a slate of new officers, including Kim Krull for vice chairwoman, George Janiec for secretary, and Kevin VanLinden for treasurer.

The new people represent a younger, fresher approach for the party, Curley said, without giving many specifics.

George Janiec represents a younger approach? How old is the guy he is replacing,LOL? IMO, Curley is the one needs to be replaced if the party is going to be a force in Lake county.

lol. that finishes it. curly will have no support outside of the handfull of team schammond people who are committeemen, coming out of hammond. (btw does this mean that team schammond did have a political affiliation after all?)

what sweet irony it would be if attaching himself to janiec (which by the way curly once posted on the times message board that he hadnt done) would wind up ending his reign of ineptitude for the county repubs.

its funny, in a pitiful way. but the lake county repubs today are weaker after 6 years of john curley than they were when they had a cover democrat running the party (chabai)

I think that the "shadow party" in Hammond has more influence on policy than the official party does.

Seems like this is why there is so much apathy about Republicans locally. You get to pick between Curley and his cast of clowns or Dedlow and his follies. As far as most folks not much into politics are concerned there's really no new blood that comes to mind because those who would make for better candidates either move away after college or are too busy making money to be bothered with a 2nd careers (and the big headaches) in politics. OTOH the top Dems make a career out of being on a government paycheck, or two, in or out of office. So their only real question is which cheek to kiss.

in fairness i believe the shadow party that bill refers to is not beholden to curly or dedelow. they are there own people rumored to be led by a former city chair who has a long history in disagreeing, politely, with dedelow, and at the same time isnt a big fan of curly.

You've hit the nail on the head. Why would anyone on the Republican side who has anything at all going for him step away from his job and home life to waste time on the rubber chicken circuit? You have to know full-well that no matter how well constructed your platform might be and no matter how much effort you may have put into new ideas, if you don't have that "D" after your name you might as well pee into the wind. I've read complaints about lack of Republican organization, running poor candidates, whatever for years. At some point, any effort at getting the Lake County Republican party going in a forward direction just becomes an exercise in throwing good money and work after bad. Why bother? Just concede the field and accept the fact that the current inept, corrupt political system will perpetuate itself as it has for over fifty years. It becomes a choice of either moving away or just bending over and taking it. It wasn't a tough decision for me.

Janiec would have been the very last person I would have thought of !

matt reardon, despite his wife's political leanings. is most decidedly a republican, philosophically speaking. yet curly ran him out of the party. myself.

bill baker. a former radio partner of mine, and a current governor appointee on the little cal basin. could have been a great asset to the repub party. yet because of the local yokels. he isnt involved in it at all.

that's two relatively young (40 something) guys they ran out.

and reardon in particular could have been exactly what the repub party needs.
