| Jon Stewart rally may get satellite fete in Chicago
Gina Pantone flew from Chicago to Washington, D.C., to witness Barack Obama's inauguration as the 44th president.
The 28-year-old financial analyst from Lakeview also headed to Washington last fall for the National Equality March.
But when she heard about Jon Stewart's Oct. 30 "Rally to Restore Sanity," she felt she would have to miss out on something equally important.
"I was super-excited, but I just can't swing it financially right now," she said.
So Pantone was thrilled when she heard about plans in Chicago to hold one of many satellite rallies across the country expected to occur at the same time as Stewart's.
Angie McMahon, 34, set up a Facebook group for the Chicago rally. The founder and executive producer of Chemically Imbalanced Theater in Lakeview, McMahon said she chose to stage a "Restore Sanity" rally here because she is five months pregnant and, therefore, unable to fly to Washington.
"I'm a busy mom, and just because I can't go to these rallies and hold obscene posters doesn't mean I don't have opinions," Pantone said.
With about 132,000 people confirming via Facebook that they will attend Stewart's rally at the National Mall as of Wednesday afternoon, roughly 400 have RSVP'd to attend McMahon's event in Chicago. Nearly 800 have indicated on Facebook that they support the event.
The Chicago rally is still uncertain because McMahon said she's waiting to get an official sanction from the Comedy Central TV channel that airs "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart." Besides Chicago, satellite rallies are being planned in Los Angeles and Seattle.

| Sw33t. I've got friends in DC; I'm trying to work out a weekend trip to see 'em. I'll definitely post some pics/video if I can make it. | |

| DC or bust. Here's to hoping I don't end up on TV getting head stomped by some rabid, retarded Teabaggers. | |

| Well... A dueling Cat Stevens and Ozzy Osbourne. Is there anything more to really say?
Actually attending the rally wasn't quite as much fun for one small detail: they had four times as many people show up than they were expecting. Their permit was for only 65,000; estimates put the crowd upwards of 250,000. It was absolutely amazing regardless. I'll post some pics and some more details a little later.

| You never revealed what you went there for. "Restore Sanity" or "Keep Fear Alive"? | |
