Bragging Rights For Me (and For Hammond)

Yes, I'm bragging about one of my kids. I thought some of you might like to hear about this.

My 3rd grader Julianna is on the Morton El Chess Team. Yesterday was the SCI Team Regional to qualify for the State. Each child competed in a team of 4 in their division. Morton El. had 4 teams compete. Julianna's team placed 3rd (missed 2nd by half a point) and Morton qualified 3 teams in all for the SCI State championship in Terra Haute.

The schools may not be the best, but Hammond has a lot more going for it than people think.

Chess is a awesome game to learn. Very important in planning ahead and calculating peoples moves. Congrats Rain! Remember the queen goes on her own color!

i saw a story in the times referring to some munster kids who also qualified for the state. congrats to them as well.

however i am wondering why the times hasnt yet mentioned the hammond kids also?

Yea you'd think they would be first with some good news in Hammond for a change, wouldn't you? But they are a bit "understaffed" so it's little wonder.

Because Munster Chess is the Team to beat in this area. Out of 5 rounds, Julianna went 4-1. She lost that one round to a kid from Munster.

Sorry it's taken me so long to update this. My computer went on the fritz. Anyways. Julianna and her team won 5th place out of about 40 teams in the 3rd and under division. We are so very very proud of her.
