| alrighty...heres my official early odds
for dem chair.
mcdermott 1-2 heavy favorite right now.
rudy 40-1 first ballot elimination
gvt...would have been 4-1...but he blew it friday afternoon...now he's down to 12-1
schueb 8-1 (i dont think he will actually run at all
field...some compromise out of the blue)4-1
as for the repubs.
2-1 against curly even running again...and if he does
20-1 against him winning.
thayer...2-1 if curly runs...100-1 if curly doesnt run.
if curly doesnt run i suspect a host of candidates will wind up on the ballot. everyone from dedelow to wheeler to mccarthy to janiec to moos. i think blanchard could become a compromise candidate that all would go for...but i dont think he would accept it.
and in that free for all....i have no idea who actually will come on top. but if its its one on one curly and thayer...as right now it would be....well lets just say that only someone as devisive as john curley could result in a repub chair for lake county coming out of east chicago!
ill try to update the odds on feb 1 and march 1

| For the GOP I'm thinking it will be Dedlow. For the Dems I'm almost tempted to mention Pabey except he really isn't much for public exposure, which is kinda a must for a county chair I would think. I think it's probably McDermott's if he wants it, but I'm thinking he probably will pass. So my early guess is - are you ready for this? George VanTil. |

| GVT didn't even win nomination in Hammond or his own home town when he was up during the primary last year, doubt he can get enough votes if someone else is running against him. | |

OK, so if McDermott passes (which I think he will) you still don't think GVT stands a snowball's chance? Well let's just hope it isn't the self-proclaimed taxpayer! |

| gvt? no chance imo. i think the party views him as old guard...and they are tired of the old guard. the problem gvt has is he has little to offer the party. used to be he could get kiesling or the times to write something nice about someone...people new he was friends with mark and nangle. maybe so, but after the bashing he took last year...i dont think people look at him with the same credibility when it comes to his promises of media controll
as for mcdermott. i still would advise him against running as i think that job is nothing but a headache to hold. but as far as i can tell he does want the job and is serious about running.
and the one thing mcdermott can offer the party...that thus far noone else has shown....is the willingness to fight for what he thinks is right for the region and party, no matter who attempts to talk him out of it or even personal political risk. at different times, he has publically taken on the governor, the party chairman, the new president, the county council/commissioners...and pretty much every other political entity going...but at the same time he always finds away to smooth things over and maintain decent working relationships with those people on issues of agreement. some individuals may not like mcdermott because of those fights, but i think just about all have come to respect him for the same reason. he's the type of guy people want to have fighting on their behalf.

| Am I then to understand Rudy Clay has no interest, or is it support? | |

That's it I am leaving the party. This man has such integrity. He is just so honest, a real man of character. :barf:

| To be clear, I think McDermott would have it if he wanted it. Never said different. But I sure hope they don't give it to Rudy! |
