Racist And A Traitor

The Civil War was about economics, not slavery!

Yes, the Civil War was about the economics of slavery.
The Civil War was about states' rights, not slavery!

Yes, the Civil War was about the states' right to maintain slavery.
That's not the Confederate flag!

True, it's the battle flag of the Army of Northern Virginia, which actually makes your usage even worse. It's the banner under which men fought and died to enact secession.
Heritage not hate!

Funny story: The heritage is hate. This is my favorite talking point because it sets up a false dichotomy and then tries to pretend "heritage" is a signifier for some romantic, noble culture just waiting to be recaptured. When Lindsay Graham says things like, "The flag represents to some people a civil war, and that was the symbol of one side. To others it's a racist symbol, and it's been used by people, it's been used in a racist way," he makes a mockery of the history. Yes, Senator, it does represent one side of the Civil War: the side that advocated slavery and secession. It's the flag of treason.

http://newsbusters.org/blogs/scott-whitlock/2015/06/22/abc-hypes-confederate-flag-gop-problem-forced-take-stand#.prxygf:0ifz

As governor, Bill Clinton signed an act that commemorated the Confederacy. Of course, this went unnoticed by ABC.

In 1994, he praised the Daughters of the Confederacy:

One of the most rewarding of human experiences is the coming together of people to share common experiences and interests. For 100 years, the United Daughters of the Confederacy has maintained and built upon the wonderful legacy of your founders. The strength of your organization today is a testament of the vision of your founders and to your commitment to your shared goals.

Just sayin'.

I think it represents a lot of brave men who thought they were fighting for a proper cause. Unfortunately, they were mistaken, and I don't think government agencies should display the flag due to the other, darker side of what it represents.

Some conservative jackasses just can't keep their mouths shut.
These idiots are totally ignoring the fact that it's REPUBLICANS who taking down the flags and they're blaming it on the left.

Some conservatives balk at Confederate flag debate

Neoconservative pundit Bill Kristol, for instance, supported the battle flag’s removal but has slammed liberals for what he called their efforts to “expung[e] every trace of respect, recognition or acknowledgment of Americans who fought for the Confederacy.”
“Next, [the] Left will ban teaching of Lincoln’s Second Inaugural in schools. None of that ‘with malice toward none, with charity for all’ stuff…,” Kristol tweeted Tuesday.
“A cause can be unjust but some of its defenders honorable. Its defeat can be a very good thing but reconciliation can be worthwhile as well,” he then tweeted Wednesday, hours after an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” in which he cautioned against the “Orwellian rewriting of history.”
Rush Limbaugh has gone further, calling the fight to have the battle flag removed an “attempt to segregate and isolate the entire South and to sort of Alinsky it.”
“You know, the Rules for Radicals,” Limbaugh said on his Tuesday show, referring to the late left-wing activist Saul Alinsky. “You seek the target, you isolate it, you attack it, humiliate it.”
And even after the flag does come down, that will not be enough, Limbaugh added: The American flag is next.
“The American flag is what? It’s the symbol of America. The left what? Doesn’t like this country very much and never has and it’s getting angrier and angrier about it seemingly every day. The American flag stands for the United States of America and, as such, everything that’s wrong with it,” he told listeners.
“The American flag has flown over a slave nation much longer than the Confederate flag did, folks. The American flag has flown over all kinds of atrocities,” he noted.
Conservative provocateur Ann Coulter, appearing on Fox Business Network, denied that the flag had any connection to the Charleston shooting or any racist connection at all, and attacked South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley for her call for its removal.
“I’m appalled by — though I’d really like to like Nikki Haley since she is a Republican,” Coulter said. “On the other hand, she is an immigrant and does not understand America’s history.” (Haley was born in the United States.)

Why, I don't live in West Virginia and I could care less what they name their facilities.

and besides:
Late in his life, Byrd explicitly renounced his earlier views favoring racial segregation. Byrd said that he regretted filibustering and voting against the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and would change it if he had the opportunity. He said joining the KKK was "the greatest mistake I ever made." Byrd also said that his views changed dramatically after his teenage grandson was killed in a 1982 traffic accident, which put him in a deep emotional valley. "The death of my grandson caused me to stop and think," said Byrd, adding he came to realize that African-Americans love their children as much as he does his.- wiki

You don’t live in South Carolina, either, but you certainly pretended to be outraged over the residual racist sentiment there.

TV Land Pulls 'Dukes of Hazzard' Episodes Amid Confederate Flag Uproar

by Kate Stanhope
7/1/2015 10:22am PDT

The show has faced criticism in the wake of the June 17 shooting in Charleston, S.C.

The Duke boys are being put on the bench.
TV Land has pulled reruns of Dukes of Hazzard in light of the recent uproar over the Confederate flag, which is emblazoned on the roof of the show's iconic General Lee 1969 Dodge Charger, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
The show has faced criticism over the depiction of the controversial flag in the wake of the June 17 shooting in Charleston, S.C., that left nine dead, and what many viewed as South Carolina's delayed decision to take the flag down.

Guns don't kill people - people kill people

Guns don't kill people - cars with an image of the Confederate flag on the roof kill people

Apparently, the flag made Dylann Roof kill the churchgoers in South Carolina. I can only imagine how many more would die if The Dukes of Hazzard was allowed to stay on the air.

I think it represents a lot of brave men who thought they were fighting for a proper cause. Unfortunately, they were mistaken, and I don't think government agencies should display the flag due to the other, darker side of what it represents.

Thanks, we agree on something. cheers

Now, when he says essentially the same thing ....

Ben Jones posted on Facebook that fans of the show know that the flag represents values of the rural South including courage, family and good times.

.... he’s a moron.
You should probably make up your mind at some point.

So you think a flag that advocated slavery and secession represents values of the rural South including courage, family and good times?
You really think that Mr. Jones agrees with your:

Do you really think Mr. Jones agrees that the flag is a racist symbol that represents the support of slavery and secession?

Cracks me up how, until about three weeks ago, you never said a word about the Confederate flag. Now, after you’ve read all of these articles telling you how you’re supposed to think, you’ve come to the conclusion that the Confederate flag is quite possibly the worst thing that ever existed.
Tell me. Edge – has anyone told you what to think about the fact that a man who held these sentiments and espoused all of those things you claim that flag stands for ….

“I shall never fight in the armed forces with a Negro by my side ... Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.”
Robert Byrd, December 11, 1945

…. has several billion public facilities named after him?
Has anyone told you to think that maybe those facilities should have his name expunged from their brass commemorative plates?
Or do you have any original thoughts on the matter?

How do you ascertain whether his refusal to bake the cake is based upon his objection to "something that represents, hatred, treason and racism", or whether his refusal is based upon his objection to same-sex marriage?
Is he obliged to divulge his reasoning, or are you content to pretend that you have the ability to read his mind?
