I remember seeing the Nikola Tesla experiment discussed on the History Channel. Not sure how soon this technology will come to your living room but it seems it is coming in the not very distant future. But how will NIPSCO charge for this? Shocked

I'll give you a hint. Just this week, actually last Thursday, quite by accident, I've been in discussions with a firm to provide a system for that very thing, at a site in East Chicago. Sorry, cannot disclose ANYTHING about it.

Can you say if NIPSCO won't be none too happy about the deal? Wink

Don't know, don't care. It is actually NIPSCo power transmitted on a small scale, from source to target. Not an experiment, but an actual application, IF APPROVED.

This kind of technology is already being used in two fields. Medical implants such as pacemakers can be implanted and powered by by external sources wirelessly through the skin. The second application is in clean rooms where computer chips can be assembled with machines and computers that are powered inductively from power sources that are outside of the room. There is also research into using inductive technology for mass transit. The ability to transmit electricity wirelessly over distances of more than a few feet is not cost effective and is very inefficient. Within the fringe scientific community, there are people who believe that Tesla's theories about wireless electrical transmission are the "holy grail" of the field. I think practical wireless electrical generation is an illusion that we will never live to see.

Ah yes, another "television is a magic trick. I don't think it is possible."
Well, in the next couple of weeks, I will be seeing a practical demonstration. Granted, it won't be transmitted over hundreds of miles, but within a 500 foot radius.
Oh, and we aren't talking about wireless electrical generation, but wireless electrical TRANSMISSION. (remember the HOT WATER HEATER discussion?)

Ah yes, another "television is a magic trick. I don't think it is possible."

I wonder if that phrase came to be when they were trying the mechanical TV? Even in like the 1980s or so someone tried to perfect that technology but it was never very practical in application. So I guess in a way they were right about that! LOL After all the electronic TV is completely different than a mechanical TV.

It remains to seen how this derivation of the Tesla coil will work out for everyday use. I am somewhat hopeful of it's success for what it is because there are a number of applications where not having to run lines everywhere would be beneficial. The only real question is the unforeseen problems that could arise.

So does this run like a radio? "radio waves" floating around, or some other form of energy forming in the tv??

Oh, damn BWG, just like you to get our pants wet and leave us hanging.

I was so excited about my tankless water heater, and now you have this carrot dangling in front of us. Better be good when you tell us.

I hope it kills Nipsco even though you might need the Almighty.

Ohhmama...you know unless we hear back, it's about rabbit ears right now.

As I understand it based on the Tesla prototype that's exactly right. It would be like radio reception. However in the original experiment the side effects and limited radius made it impractical and other influences such as financing any further research put an end to the project.

He said NIPSCO will be supplying the power, at least for the project cited.

So- do you know what was up with the free e-'s in the story? That kinda made my ears perk- not in a good way either...

Could you rephrase the question? By "free e-'s" do you mean free electricity or the effect of electrons roaming freely on organic organisms like grass & people??

I'm pretty sure Tesla had in mind free or cheap energy but essentially this is just a distribution network in it's application. The electricity still has to be produced.

This thread is worth bumping because I don't think you can post a link proving anything like this has ever occurred on this planet.

A week later and BWG is still looking for the link to prove his point.

Sparks...never underestimate BWG!

He doesn't use links when BWG is directly involved. Trust me...when the time is right..you won't need a link.

Just will have to "pick his brain"!

P.S....and I'm not picking on you Sparks...I just know BWG is full credentials. A very smart guy who only comments when necessary.

No, never met him. But I can tell he ain't gonna give a link when he is part of the link and when he's ready to prove...he will.
