Cousins' encounter with Obama Empty
PostSubject: Cousins' encounter with Obama   Cousins' encounter with Obama Empty1/17/2010, 5:56 pm

Hubby's cousin lost her son in Iraq a few years ago. TJ was buried at Arlington, which is near their Maryland home. Last fall, his brothers were visiting his grave, quietly talking, when a couple men in suits came up and asked them to remove their hands from their pockets. This was in the days before Obama was making his decision on Afghanistan, and he was walking around Arlington. He came up to the boys and asked them about their brother - his unit, how he died, etc. Finally he asked if he could pray with them. He put his arms around the brothers and prayed.

Evidently, the decision about a surge in Afghanistand did not come easily for him.

Karen, that really hit a spot in my heart. Everyone in the newspapers, etc., agreed we needed to send more troops there.

While my brother was in Viet Namn...well, I can still feel those "feelings" everyone must be feeling while their family/friends are sent to fight this obnoxious war over "religion".

For oil...mostly for terrorism. I just hope it is for naught.

I just wish the whole world would be at peace with one another. I just don't understand how it has grown from oil to religion. To waste lives...for terroris that defy the very meaning of real religion. What God teaches you to blow up someone to earn a place at the "Pearly Gates"? It just is so unreal.

A salute to TJ. I have famlily (cousins) over there. I have friends who lost family members in Afghanistan. I know theat not one day goes by without me thinking of our troops over there. How much their familes worry...I pray everyday asking God to make the whole world come to peace.

Thanks for posting this anecdotal account of this chance meeting with President Obama. It helps to illustrate just how difficult the decision to increase our military presence in Afghanistan must have been for Barack.
