So I got an email from our beloved President today.
Today, I signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act into law.
This is a historic step -- the first of many as we work together to climb out of this crisis -- and I want to thank you for your resolve and your support.
You organized thousands of house meetings. You shared your ideas and personal stories. And you informed your friends and neighbors about the need for immediate action. You continue to be a powerful voice for change throughout the country.
The recovery plan will create or save 3.5 million jobs, provide tax cuts for working and middle-class families, and invest in health care and clean energy.
It's a bold plan to address a huge problem, and it will require my vigilance and yours to make sure it's done right.
I've assigned a team of managers to oversee the implementation of the recovery act. We are committed to making sure no dollar is wasted. But accountability begins with you.
That's why my administration has created Recovery.gov, a new website where citizens can track every dollar spent and every job created. We'll invite you and your neighbors to weigh in with comments and questions.
Our progress will also be measured by the tens of thousands of personal stories submitted by people who are struggling to make ends meet. If you haven't already, you can read stories from families all across the country:
Where is Your Money Going? Where is your money going chart
* Tax Relief - includes $15 B for Infrastructure and Science, $61 B for Protecting the Vulnerable, $25 B for Education and Training and $22 B for Energy, so total funds are $126 B for Infrastructure and Science, $142 B for Protecting the Vulnerable, $78 B for Education and Training, and $65 B for Energy.
State and Local Fiscal Relief - Prevents state and local cuts to health and education programs and state and local tax increases.
How is this "creating jobs?"

Mirage,How about giving it a reasonable amount of time instead of condemning it before it even has a chance to work?
Mo. bridge project touted as first under stimulus 16 hours ago
TUSCUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Construction crews have started working on a replacement for a rural Missouri bridge within minutes of President Barack Obama's signing the $787 billion stimulus package.
Officials expected the Missouri bridge project would be the first in the nation to get started under the stimulus plan.
The 1,000-foot-long bridge being replaced spans a Missouri River tributary about 30 miles southwest of the state Capitol in Jefferson City. It was built in 1933 but was closed to large trucks in 2007 because of structural concerns.

Yeah, Mirage. Give it a reasonable amount of time to work. You don't want to end up in the same phylum (democrata liberala dumbassa) as the pre-surge 'When Harry Met Nancy' crowd, do you?

Notice how debt relief for the states is more than the stimulus amount to get the economy going?
Yep this is nothing but a giant pork laden bill
The entire amount for this stimulus bill should have been $111 billion, so the rest of the amount in the bill is pork
Yep CHANGE sure has come to Washington DC, the only difference is that is now a D in the white house and not an R, but otherwise the same old shit different day attitude still prevails in DC right now.
PORK has run amok in DC now
I am loving how Obama claims $111 billion will create 3.5 million jobs.

And lets not forget, that the states have already raised its taxes, thuis that excuse is out the door
You honestly think Indiana is going to roll back its taxes it has raised in the past year now that they got the "stimulus debt relief money"? Hell no they won't
And how is a monorail from downtown LA to Disneyland going to help the economy?(hmm this smells a lot like bacon as well- nevermind that it should have been in a transp;ortation bill, not a stimulus bill)

Looking at the breakdown from Obama's own cited website how can it EVER be stimulus of anything other than government bureaucracy and special interest?
$144 bil for states - and that is going into the general fund, not targeted to any job creation.
$81 bil "to protect the vulnerable?" How is that stimulating anything except for more taxpayer funded welfare??
I'm looking at these items and the only thing that kinda looks like actual stimulus out of $800 bil is $118 bil for infrastructure & science, and even of that if I recall less than $60 bil goes to actual jobs in the first 12 months. So what the hell am I supposed to be waiting for? $800 bil for $60 bil in benefit? That's not even 10% of the bill!
It's kinda like camping out at Freetime's house to wait for the West Shore railroad. It may stop there one day in the distant future after many $millions more in RDA spending but as it stands today it's all just expensive talk and going nowhere.

I'm glad I posted Obama's graphic! He's pulled it down and gone to a state by state tour. I don't even see a link for yesterday's graphics now.

Yeah. Well since it seems that some of you don't seem to have any concept at all about what the Recovery and Reinvestment Act is all about, then perhaps a simple cartoon will help you to begin to understand...

Easily misled, aren't you? It's all about imposing socialism and political payback. Nothing more.
No, I don't think so. Only a rabid partisan who spends too much time in fever swamps would think it's "all about imposing socialism."
Don't think that massive spending and investment programs work? You also like to bad rap FDR, but let's take a look at what happened to the Gross Domestic Product after FDR took office and instituted the New Deal, shall we?

FDR causing the depression is just another looney tunes fantasy that's popular in wingnut land right now.
