Yep,No sport connects more with the average American than "Dressage" Laughing

Romney’s Ancient, Difficult Dressage Horse, Rafalca, Going to the Olympics
Quote :
Mitt Romney Rich Person Affectation Day continues on VF Daily! We’d like to extend the equine equivalent of mazel tov—a carrot, maybe?—to a very special horse. Rafalca Romney, Mitt and Ann Romney’s beloved pet/hobby, will participate on the 2012 U.S. Olympic dressage team.

MSNBC reports that Rafalca Romney is a “15-year-old Oldenburg mare” whose path to the Olympics, according to his human rider, has “been long and emotional with ups and downs and more than a few bumps along the way.” And said human is not just talking about literal ups and downs that we assume to be a natural and unavoidable part of horse riding, but emotional ups and downs. For our Rafalca Romney has a rebellious streak: at the 2009 Dressage World Cup, “Rafalca refused a command in the ring.”

Seamus Romney never did anything wrong, and yet, who gets to go to the Olympics, and who is dead?

Mittens Rombot in London showcasing a sport that few Americans have ever heard of,let alone could afford to participate in. I'd say that the average Joe Sixpack, upon hearing the term "Dressage",would be more inclined to think it's a dish you serve on the side at Thanksgiving. Laughing

If a Democrat candidate for POTUS participated in a sport like this one can only imagine the howling from the right along with their usual demeaning gay double entendres. affraid Now they'll have to sit on their hands and pretend they're fine with it Laughing

The jokes will be writing themselves, folks. cheers

So is Romney riding the horse, or does he have a surrogate?

Ann Romney 'thrilled' by horse's performance in Olympics
Quote :
Mitt Romney is back hoge ring Thursday.
me, fending off accusations by the Senate majority leader that he failed to pay taxes, but part of the Romney family is still having an Olympics moment.

Ann Romney stayed behind in London to watch her trainer, Jan Ebeling, and Rafalca, the mare she co-owns, compete in the dressage ring Thursday.
Ebeling and Rafalca, part of the U.S. Olympic Equestrian team, finished 13th in their first test — the individual grand prix competition — with a score of 70.243%. It was unclear how they would ultimately rank, as only half the 50-pair field had competed. The Los Angeles Times’ Helene Elliott reported that Romney pronounced herself "thrilled to death with the performance." Rafalca and Ebeling are scheduled to perform again Friday.

In a conversation with the New York Times after the competition, Ebeling said he was pleased as well. Rafalca, a 15-year-old Oldenburg mare, is “peaking at just the right moment,” he said
.
Ann Romney is just as out of touch as her husband. What is there to be "thrilled" about a performance where her hayburner finishes 13th out of a field of 25?

I'm ashamed to admit that I wasted about 15 minutes of my life watching this nonsense. This has to rank as one, if not the most, idiotic "sport" I've ever witnessed in my life.

Boo Hoo Sad
Rafalca's Olympic campaign ends Ebeling, Ann Romney-owned dressage horse won't be in top 18
Quote :
LONDON (AP) — Rafalca the horse returned to the Olympic spotlight Tuesday for her second and final round of competition in equestrian dressage. Stephen Colbert's favorite horse was mathematically eliminated from the individual competition, as was the U.S. in the team medal race.

Ridden by Jan Ebeling, Rafalca scored 69.317 after a round of 70.243 last Thursday. The pair were 30th entering the day and needed to be in the top 18 to advance to Thursday's individual dressage final.

Rafalca, a 15-year-old, German-bred mare, is co-owned by Mitt Romney's wife Ann, and has inspired jokes and financial questions about how the Republican presidential candidate.

Romney said Rafalca had another "fabulous" ride and that she's thinking of breeding the German-born mare. "It was wonderful. She was elegant and consistent again. We just love her."
