Pabey under investigation for stealing from East Chicago

Will East Chicago ever elect an honest Mayor? I think this incident is every bit as stupid as the Blagojevich scandal. Did Pabey really believe he could send city workers to Miller to work on his daughter's home without getting caught? I think convicting both Pastrick and Pabey would make a great Christmas present for East Chicago. Maybe they can share a cell.

I'll never forget the first time I drove into EC in the late 90's and saw Pastrick's name just about everywhere and on everything. As someone who lived in Chicago most of my life,I could just smell the corruption,even though I didn't know a thing about the place other than a casino boat was coming.

Just goes to show you, same old stuff, different day

I don't know if you recall an old post I made on one forum, but a family friend, who is now in her late 60's, paid a visit to my mom and dad's two years ago.

In 1965, we met her and and her then husband to be, that worked at my dad's place on the harbor..a truck driver. Anyway, "Bev" worked for the steel mills, and we got t talking about Pastrick and I mentioned the scandal about the sidewalks, etc.

She worked for the STEEL MIll, residing in EC. many years ago and told me that that corruption went on for many years. They automatically deducted $35.00 from her check to go towards Pastrick. She said it was so corrupt, so insulting, so demeaning...that she wouldn't be surprised at that point if it was still going on today.

By the way, she worked in 1965 what was called Betheham Steel Company, and she is now in her late 60s. So she's been out of the region for over 3 decades and promised, assured me, "E.C. will never change...even with mayors." "That shitz been going on for years and will always go on..I know, because back then technology wasn't available and it was understood, $35.00 gets deducted for the corruption."

So, she was right. She has nothing to loose telling me the truth.

The FBI is continuing their investigation of George Pabey's use of city employees to renovate a home he purchased in Miller.

Federal agents interviewed Engineering Department employees Monday, apparently stepping up an investigation into allegations city workers were sent to do renovation work this summer at a Gary home owned by Mayor George Pabey.

Agents arrived Monday morning and questioned a handful of engineering employees and are expected to return today, workers said. I believe their is some truth to the allegations and that Pabey will be indicted for it. What politicians don't seem to realize is when you have city employees do work on your personal property on city time, you are embezzling from the taxpayers.

Ya know, Sparks, I don't believe there is any money to be made unless you're a politician.

They have the connections, they abuse their power outside a few, and eventually it's "I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine".

It always was that way. Today, the technology has stepped up, and just look at Blago; today it was announced "thousands of calls came in adding to his corruption."

East Chicago was always corrupt. Back in the 70s I knew that as a teen. My dad had truck drivers that knew how to teach my brothers to run 18 wheelers without licenses for the steel mills. Nothing surprises me today.

Hell, before Mayor Shaw passed away, he had his brother lessen his property taxes - nothing surprises me.
