The NY Mets put an end a 2 game Cub winning streak by pounding out 16 hits, including a Grand Slam, slaughtering the Cubbies by a score of 17-1. Our record now stands at 7-(1*)
What was truly amazing about this feat was that the Mets were able to overcome the presence of legendary 1st baseman Anthony Rizzo who the Cubs, their fans, and front man Tom Ricketts have been worshiping as if he were Lou Gehrig reincarnated ready to be enshrined in the Baseball Hall Of Fame.
To add insult to injury,Jeff Samajorda, who the Cubs have been touting as "untradeable" and acting like he was Cy Young and Sandy Koufax rolled into one, gave up 9 runs in 4 innings. Last 3 or 4 outings he's averaged something like a 12.00 ERA. I think the bloom is now officially off of that rose.
Last but least I would be remiss not to mention the most remarkable and nutty Cub fan moment of the year so far.
That insane exercise occurred Tuesday night when Anthony Rizzo stepped to the plate for the very first time and received a standing ovation by scores of delusional Cub fans before he had even swung at a pitch.
Quite the vote of confidence for a guy who hit .141 over 49 games when the Padres brought him up last year.
