the munster town council is the latest body to show support for the cabela's stif money to fund the little cal levee project (failing the states ability to come up with seperate funding)
highland, north township, hammond, and several cities and towns in eastern lake county have already voiced support. while county government hasnt passed a resolution yet, im told they are nearing the point where they might. wasnt long ago (few weeks in fact) that this idea was basically dismissed as impossible and impractical by many naysayers. but as the legislative session moves along, this plan may be the only viable one left, depending on the indiana stimula bill's outcome. hopefully by standing together all of our communities can finally get some movement on this issue.
by the way, the hammond sanitary district yesterday basically gave a loan of 200k to the basin commission so that work can continue on the levee project (big surprise no media covered the meeting) it isnt actually (technically) a loan in the traditional sense of the word (we fronted the money with the expectation it will be paid back once funding from the state does come through). but that is, imo, the practical sense.
