As crazy as this sounds Elizabeth Hasselbeck summed it up the best. If Phelps is willing to take a drug that would negatively alter his performance, what would stop him from taking a drug in the future that would positively enhance his performance?

I have a feeling that after the public embarassment, losing his endorsement with Kelloggs and getting suspended for 3 months he may think twice about doing any more drugs...

then again, one would think he would have reconsidered this type of behavior after his DUI arrest in 2004 and used the same excuse then... only time will tell. Hopefully since he's a bigger "star" now, he will use his head instead of fogging it up.

Normally I would say big deal, but I am glad they suspended him.

He had a DUI at 19, which right there makes me believe he never learned his lesson when he got a wrist slapping.

Hopefully this time he learns since it cost him money

he deserved the suspension, kellogs is perfectly legit to say they dont want him representing their brand anymore, and all the rest.

but what the guy doesnt deserve is a public crucifixion, which is what some media outlets seem to want to do to him.

he made a stupid, youthfull, (he is only 23 after all) indiscretion. he was at a party and he didnt say no (wheres nancy reagen when we need her?).

instead of pointing fingers at the guy and saying how wrong the indiscretion was. i choose to look at how the guy has handled the situation since the picture appeared. he did not deny it once. he acknowledged he shouldnt have been in that situation was wrong for his actions and apologized to everyone he could possibly think of. and has accepted the suspension and kellogs firing without any complaining, appealing, or whining.

honestly while everyone else is bashing him and questioning his ability to be a role model for kids (as if any stranger in the public eye should be a role model for kids). i kind of wish my nieces and nephew new who this guy was, so that i could show them that this is the type of responsibility that i want to demand from them. for as i am always telling them....i dont expect them to always be perfect. but i do expect them to recognize and take responsibility when they arent, and to always try to improve themselves.

Sure he does Oracle. The guy is touted as the second coming and even he believes he is, so anytime the guy can be knocked down a few pegs, I am all for it

He is not a normal citizen anymore, so when he screws up, it is national news, and he now understands it

Notice how he has remained silent since he was suspended? How come he is not out talking about his issues and speaking about the dangers of drug use? Amazing how he went from willing to be seen to going into hiding since he got busted. His actions speak louder than his words right now

Why do we continually place atheletes in a hero status. Talent, yes, hero, no.
