This is actually on the National Republican Congressional Committee's website. What the hell are they smoking over there? Thank your lucky stars that Barack Obama is President and we have a strong Democratic majority in Congress. I shudder to think what would be happening if these clowns were still running the show....

Economy Thanks to Republican economic policies, the U.S. economy is robust and job creation is strong.
Republican tax cuts are creating jobs and continuing to strengthen the economy, yet there is still more to do so that every American who wants a job can find one.
You can rest easy now,the page I originally posted is now gone. I guess they had second thoughts about taking full credit for the "robust" economy.

Face,My point is that the link claiming the economy was robust was still active as of yesterday, while on Thursday they had found the time to post something that bashed Pelosi and the economic stimulus.

Did you forget that McCain's poll numbers went in the toilet as soon as said "The economy is fundamentally sound"?
White House says economy is sound despite 'mess' By PHILIP ELLIOTT, Associated Press Writer Philip Elliott, Associated Press Writer – 58 mins ago
WASHINGTON – The economy is fundamentally sound despite the temporary "mess" it's in, the White House said Sunday in the kind of upbeat assessment that Barack Obama had mocked as a presidential candidate.
During the fall campaign, Obama relentlessly criticized his Republican opponent, Sen. John McCain, for declaring, "The fundamentals of our economy are strong." Obama's team painted the veteran senator as out of touch and failing to grasp the challenges facing the country.
Just a week ago, White House Office of Management and Budget director Peter Orszag declared that "fundamentally, the economy is weak." Days later, Obama told reporters he was confident in the economy.

Wow - Nothing like cherry picking an article through selective editing...
Here is the actual statement made today (in bold below), which was in the article, between "Obama's team painted the veteran senator as out of touch and failing to grasp the challenges facing the country" and "Just a week ago."
Quote :
After weeks projecting a dismal outlook on the economy, administration officials -- led by the president himself in recent days -- swung their rhetoric toward optimism in what became Wall Street's best stretch since November.
During the fall campaign, Obama relentlessly criticized his Republican opponent, Sen. John McCain, for declaring, "The fundamentals of our economy are strong." Obama's team painted the veteran senator as out of touch and failing to grasp the challenges facing the country.
But on Sunday, that optimistic message came from economic adviser Christina Romer. When asked during an appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press" if the fundamentals of the economy were sound, she replied: "Of course they are sound." "The fundamentals are sound in the sense that the American workers are sound, we have a good capital stock, we have good technology," she said. "We know that -- that temporarily we're in a mess, right? We've seen huge job loss, we've seen very large falls in GDP. So certainly in the short run we're in a -- in a bad situation." Just a week ago, White House Office of Management and Budget director Peter Orszag declared that "fundamentally, the economy is weak." Days later, Obama told reporters he was confident in the economy.
You know, it's customary to use a -snip- notation or a series of elipses when you lift selective sentences out of an article, and especially in a case like this, where you omitted the entire quote in a paragraph, yet posted the sentences before and after the quote. Pretty deceptive, don't you think?

There we go, all fixed...sorry about that. Now back to topic-
so Has John McCain’s statements about the economy been vindicated??? Because essentially he said the same thing during the campaign which he was blasted for, now Obama says it and, well, I'm waiting to hear/read the blasting...

No. McCain did not "say the same thing." If you read the quote that you deleted...

First of all the quote is not from the President's words, who as far as I know, hasn't said much beyond he is "confident" about the economy.
The comment from Obama's economic adviser is heavily qualified, and comes at a time when a lot of steps have been taken to get us out of this mess. McCain made his statement repeatedly, and even said we weren't headed for a recession.
See for yourself...

NO! McCain's comments were said in early September,6 months ago. When I started this thread about 50 days ago it was before we even got a stimulus passed. Things change over time.
