Ukraine president says there was no ‘blackmail’ in Trump phone conversation

This "argument" is laughable.  Zelensky is responsible for the future of Ukraine.  Ukraine is in a war with Russia.

Ukraine is heavily dependent on the United States for support.  The last thing he wants to do is say anything at all that would anger Trump. If he did, he could lose everything, including his country.

I really shouldn't have to point this out... it is (or should be)  frickin' obvious.  If you haven't been following the story, then just admit it.

With all the spotlights shining brightly on this whole situation, Trump wouldn't dare try to screw Ukraine if Zelensky came out today and claimed that Trump had indeed tried to put the squeeze on him.
So why doesn't Zelensky do so?
Even if he lost favor with Trump, he would be guaranteed the eternal gratitude and support of every Democrat member of Congress - you know, where the money actually comes from.

First of all, it's clear that you didn't read the excellent article that Heretic posted... so here it is again...

Here's another article just posted that explains Zelensky's current predicament...

https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/europe/why-ukraines-zelensky-remains-so-focused-on-getting-a-white-house-meeting/2020/01/29/ef1efdfa-41e9-11ea-99c7-1dfd4241a2fe_story.html

You really need to read the whole piece, but here are some excerpts...

Quote :
Getting past the Trump problem is crucial for Zelensky, a former television comedian who ran for president on a platform of dealing with Ukraine’s enduring problem of corrosive corruption and ending a war with Russian-backed separatists in the eastern region of Donbas.

Quote :
But the signs for Ukraine are worrying.

Volker has not been replaced since his resignation in September. There has been no new U.S. ambassador appointed to replace Marie Yovanovitch, who was recalled by Trump last spring. And a disquieting silence has descended over U.S.-Ukraine relations amid the Senate impeachment trial over Trump’s attempts to pressure Zelensky to investigate political rival Joe Biden and his son Hunter.

Quote :
Zelensky’s main task is a possible reset in U.S.-Ukraine relations without wading into American politics, said Andriy Buzarov, a foreign policy expert on the public council of the Ukraine Ministry of Foreign Affairs, an advisory body.

Quote :
“Zelensky and his team will do everything possible to avoid getting involved in the internal political strife of the United States on one side or the other,” Buzarov said. “Zelensky has two clear tasks — to get continued United States support for Ukraine, no matter who is president of the United States or Ukraine, and to minimize the involvement of the Zelensky team in the internal political disputes of the United States.”

Sanders: U.S. Should Withhold Military Aid Unless Israel ‘Fundamentally Changes’ Relationship With Gaza

By Tobias Hoonhout

October 29, 2019 10:23 AM

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, who has earned endorsements from Ilhan Omar (D., Minn.), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D., NY), and Rashida Tlaib (D., Mich), supporters of an Israel boycott, said during the annual J Street national conference on Monday that the U.S. should “leverage” military aid to Israel in order “to demand respect for human rights and democracy.”
“My solution is to say to Israel: you get $3.8 billion dollars every year, if you want military aid you’re going to have to fundamentally change your relationship to the people of Gaza,” Sanders said. “In fact, I think it is fair to say that some of that should go right now into humanitarian aid in Gaza.”
The U.S. has agreed to give Israel a massive military-aid package. The latest aid package was approved by the Obama administration and commits to giving Israel $38 billion in military aid to Israel over 10 years. The memorandum of understanding for the aid runs through 2028.

No, because I don't see any solicitation of a foreign government to interfere in our elections, nor do I see military aid that was specifically mandated by Congress, and then illegally held up by the President, in your example.

You haven't really been keeping up with the impeachment proceedings, have you?

Not as much as I should have, seeing as how the results are pretty much preordained.
I have been keeping up with the hypocrisy, though, considering that quid pro quo has become the dirtiest word of the decade.
So, what's next?
Do you plan to circle back to the 25th Amendment ploy?
The Emoluments clause?
A resurrection of the Mueller report?
Russia! Russia! Russia!
Can't wait.

Not as much as I should have, seeing as how the results are pretty much preordained.

You mean a sham trial and a Senate Republican coverup?  They actually voted for no witnesses and no new evidence!  75% of voters wanted to see witnesses, and the GOP just flipped them the bird.

When this inquiry began, I saw no way that the Democrats could take back the Senate.  But now, it's definitely in play. I'm not saying that the Democrats won't blow it, but the Senate is now theirs for the taking.

I was really shocked that the GOP Senators voted as a bloc to not even receive testimony solely from Bolton.  That's just breathtakingly arrogant and recklessly irresponsible... the American people will see this for what it is... a coverup.

No witnesses?
It was up to the House to present witnesses.
They had one job ….
Now, can we get back to the Russian collusion thing?
That was, at least, mildly interesting.

Democrats Vow Trump Probes to Go On After Impeachment Trial Ends

….
Illinois Representative Raj Krishnamoorthi, a member of both the Oversight and Intelligence committees, said Democrats learned some lessons from the impeachment inquiry, in which Trump refused to provide documents or allow testimony from White House officials.
“It just makes us more wizened and more knowledgeable about all the different ways the other side is going to evade oversight, and to plan accordingly,” Krishnamoorthi said, as he manned the phones and said, "Hello, I am Raj, and I will be your technical support representative today."

https://thefederalist.com/2020/02/20/john-bolton-admits-last-minute-impeachment-leak-was-a-publicity-stunt/

Former National Security Advisor John Bolton admitted Wednesday that his testimony in President Donald Trump’s recent impeachment proceedings involving Ukraine would have had no impact on the trial’s outcome even after sections of his upcoming book leaked attempting to convict the president in its final days.
“People can argue about what I should have said and what I should have done,” Bolton said at Vanderbilt University Wednesday night during a forum with his predecessor Susan Rice, according to ABC News. “I will bet you a dollar right here and now my testimony would have made no difference to the ultimate outcome.”

“I sleep at night because I have followed my conscience,” Bolton added.

Based upon the small parts of the Democrat debates I've watched (not to mention the behavior of the candidates in general) I'm wondering why they don't just get on the stage wearing MAGA hats and pump their fists, screaming, "Four more years!!!!".

Nation's Bernie Supporters Frantically Cobble Together Makeshift Rafts To Paddle To Utopian Cuba

U.S.—After Bernie Sanders praised elements of Cuba's totalitarian regime, the presidential candidate's loyal supporters scrambled to cobble together makeshift rafts so they could paddle over to Cuba to experience the Communist island's renowned literacy programs, medical care, and other social services.
Desperate refugees clung to anything that would float as they attempted to sail across the Gulf and get to the idyllic paradise of Cuba.
"We just have to get over there," said one "Bernie Bro" as he fashioned a raft out of discarded plastic straws. "I for one want to experience Cuba's literacy program so I can finally read a book. And I've heard that their healthcare is the best in the world, as long as you're among the elite. Which, I'm sure I'll be accepted as the elite and not one of the peasants, since I'm from a wealthy, capitalist nation like America."
The Bernie Bro feared he had made a mistake as his iPhone dropped out of cell range a few hundred feet from shore, but it was too late to turn back.
Sadly, once the Bernie supporters had gone through Cuba's literacy program, they were able to read a history book and learn how bad socialism is, so they were forced to cobble together rafts to come back to America.

In Major Gaffe, Bernie Sanders Forgets Words To Communist Manifesto

March 3rd, 2020

SAINT PAUL, MN—This year’s Democratic primary campaign has been filled with gaffes by the candidates, but Monday may have brought the worst one of all, as Democratic socialist Bernie Sanders tried to quote the Communist Manifesto and forgot the words.
During a campaign rally in Saint Paul, Sanders attempted to quote the document treasured by his followers, written by Karl Marx in praise of the glories of communism. Sanders raised his fist on high and called out, “Workers of the world, well, you know the thing!” A flustered Sanders tried to regain his composure but simply continued stuttering and stammering as his speech descended into nonsense, or at least more nonsense than usual. "The proletarians have nothing to lose but their, you know, the thing -- their three houses, maybe? The thing!"
“It was shocking,” one Sanders supporter told sources. “I thought Bernie was going to be the next Joseph Stalin or Fidel Castro. But he can’t even quote our most cherished document? Big yikes, bro.”
At publishing time, Sanders supporters were using their capitalism-produced smartphones to look up the part in the Communist Manifesto that talks about student loan forgiveness.
