President Elect Thin skin finds something else to whine about...
'Hamilton' member gives Pence earful; Trump: "Apologize!"
Quote :
NEW YORK — President-elect Donald Trump on Saturday demanded an apology from the "Hamilton" cast member who gave Mike Pence an onstage earful about equality.

"Our wonderful future V.P. Mike Pence was harassed last night at the theater by the cast of Hamilton, cameras blazing," the Republican Trump tweeted Saturday. "The theater must always be a safe and special place. The cast of Hamilton was very rude last night to a very good man, Mike Pence. Apologize!"

Dixon tweeted at Trump saying "conversation is not harassment sir" while adding that he appreciates Pence stopping to listen.

The atmosphere was tense from the time Pence arrived at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, triggering both cheers and boos as he slipped into the prime orchestra seats. After the curtain-call, Dixon called Pence out from the stage, with the cast behind him.

"Vice President-elect Pence, I see you walking out, but I hope you will hear us, just a few more moments. There's nothing to boo here, ladies and gentlemen," Dixon said. "We're all here sharing a story about love."

Outside, many protesters jeered, including one woman who held up a sign with a line from the musical that always gets a cheer: "Immigrants, we get the job done." Dixon's speech, which ended with a plea to donate to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, brought down the house.
What's hilarious about this is that Trump's deplorables are trying to organize a boycott. Can someone remind them that the shows are sold out and the hottest ticket in town.

Yeah, well like I've been saying the last couple of years or so... the GOP has to cut the crazies loose.

I'd say the chance of that happening now is close to zero.  Alex Jones and InfoWars (who just thanked Trump for being a Twoofer too) now has the President's ear.  Maybe they'll turn on him when nothing he promised during the campaign happens?  I'd like to think so, but I'm very doubtful.

We're just in for an awful four fucking years.

Trump Commerce pick signed pro-TPP letter, said jobs wouldn't come back from China
Quote :
Wilbur Ross, Donald Trump's pick to be Commerce secretary, signed a letter in support of the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal in 2015.

Since then, Ross has emerged as a vocal critic of trade deals, saying as recently as Wednesday that the TPP was a "horrible deal."

Ross has made other statements in conflict with Donald Trump in recent years, including the assertion jobs would never come back to the United States from China.

The TPP letter was sent by the Partnership of New York to New York's congressional delegation and was signed by other notable businessmen like Lloyd Blankfein, the CEO of Goldman Sachs, and Rupert Murdoch of 21st Century Fox. The letter argued TPP would create jobs in the United States. The letter was first posted by the Huffington Post in May 2015, before Trump was running for president, noting that some billionaire Republican donors backed TPP.

"On behalf of the Partnership for New York City, whose members collectively employ 1.5 million New Yorkers, we urge you to support the Bipartisan Congressional Trade Priorities and Accountability Act of 2015 (TPA) and allow negotiation of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) free trade agreement to move forward," the letter reads.

"Trade experts and economists agree that the TPP would be a catalyst for creating new jobs in the United States, attracting more foreign investment to this country, and benefitting American workers in a broad range of industries," the letter adds. "Economic growth at home can only happen through more aggressive export of American goods and services for purchase by the 95% of the world's consumers who live beyond our borders."

A comment request to the Ross and the Trump transition team was not returned.

In 2012, speaking on the presidential election, Ross said U.S. jobs would not come back from China, even if there was a downturn in the Chinese economy.

"I think the China bashing is widely overdone in this country," Ross said on CNBC in 2012. "The reality is if something were to happen that cost China jobs -- like if they upwardly revalued the currency a lot -- those jobs aren't going to come back to the U.S. They would go to Vietnam, they would go to Thailand. They would go to whatever country was the lowest cost. So it's a fiction on both sides that those jobs will come back.

Trump’s Labor Secretary Pick: ‘I Like Beautiful Women Eating Burgers In Bikinis’
Andy Puzder heads Carl’s Jr., maker of burgers and soft-porn TV commercials. His job is to protect women’s rights at work.

What kind of American values does Andy Puzder, reported to be Donald Trump’s pick for labor secretary, embrace?
Puzder, CEO of the company that operates burger chains Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s, has been outspoken on a few issues. He doesn’t want to raise the minimum wage. He really dislikes Obamacare.
What, then, does he like?
Hot women in bikinis eating burgers.
“I like our ads. I like beautiful women eating burgers in bikinis. I think it’s very American,” Puzder told Entrepreneur last year. “I used to hear, brands take on the personality of the CEO. And I rarely thought that was true, but I think this one, in this case, it kind of did take on my personality.”
The comments ― and Puzder’s full-throated defense of his degrading ad campaigns ― are just the latest sign of how terrible the Trump administration is likely to be for American women. Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush both named women as labor secretaries.
Part of Puzder’s job as labor secretary would include protecting women’s rights in the workplace. He would oversee the Labor Department’s Women’s Bureau, which advocates for equal pay and offers resources for women discriminated against at work.
In Puzder’s world, the Women’s Bureau is the name of a “breastaurant” that serves high-end burgers.
His Carl’s Jr. has been running TV commercials showing super-attractive women eating burgers for more than a decade, beginning with a soft-porn spot featuring Paris Hilton nearly naked, washing a Bentley in heels and eating a burger. More recently, a young Kate Upton has taken on the mantle.
In these spots, women don’t just eat the food. They basically have sex with the food.
“It’s upsetting because of its objectification of women,” Jezebel wrote in a post entitled, “Put It in My Mouth: A History of Disgusting Carl’s Jr. Ads.” It’s infuriating because who in their right mind eats a burger with sopping wet hands.”
In an interview with Fox in 2015, Puzder defended the half-naked-women-sell-burgers-strategy by saying, essentially, it works. “We always get blowback on the ads … The ads are very effective. They appeal to our young hungry guy demographic.”
The fast-food industry is not known as a particularly good place for women. Yet a stunning 70 percent of the front-line, low-wage jobs in fast food are held by women. (I don’t have data specific to Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr., but the stats are likely similar.)
Forty percent of women working in the industry reported some kind of sexual harassment at work, according to a recent survey. That’s 2 in 5 women.
But sure ― keep teaching young boys that women are just burger-selling, bikini-wearing vehicles for their pleasure. That will definitely send the message that sexual harassment isn’t OK.

I'm not gonna be overly stunned if we find out that 99.9999% of the 'hate crimes' that have allegedly taken place since the election turn out to be steaming loads of horseshit like this one.

http://heatst.com/life/she-made-it-up-nypd-arrests-muslim-girl-who-claimed-attack-by-trump-supporters/

SHE MADE IT UP: NYPD Arrests Muslim Girl Who Claimed Attack by Trump Supporters

New York City college student Yasmin Seweid who claimed to be the victim of a hate crime by Trump supporters is under arrest and charged with filing a false report, a police source told The New York Daily News. The 18-year-old Seweid caused quite the media stir with her sensationalized account of Trump supporters attacking her on the subway. She claimed three men attempted to pull off her hijab while calling her a terrorist and yelling Trump’s name. All this happened, she said, while New Yorkers sat idly by and watched her get assaulted.
The police source told The News that police gave Seweid numerous opportunities to recant her story but she kept sticking to it. Finally, on Wednesday, she admitted she made the whole thing up, citing “family problems.”
Police say there was many inconsistencies in her story initially, but at first they assumed that was typical of being traumatized. They also claim the investigation into the false hate crime required “a lot” of resources.
Many people became suspicious of Seweid’s story when no witnesses of the attack came forward and only one of the men she described could be found on MTA security tape. Things got even stranger when Seweid disappeared last weekend only to return two days later saying she was at a relatives house.
The many media outlet’s initial reporting of the fake hate crime did not include qualifiers like “alleged” and “claimed.” Instead they reported the hoax crime as a fact like with Buzzfeed’s story, “Drunk Men Yelling “Donald Trump” Attempt To Remove Woman’s Hijab On NYC Subway.”
While it’s not completely clear why Seweid invented this story it is clear that this hoax will harm the credibility of actual victims of hate crimes and assaults.

It’s apparent from your article that these folks think that they need a safe space in order to express their opinions, not in order to whine, weep, and pet bunnies, like their Hillary-devastated counterparts.

Amherst also saw a bit of a controversy surrounding a professor who was singled out for his views.
The professor, Hadley Arkes, an emeritus professor of political science, pulled out a bottle of champagne in his political science class to celebrate Mr. Trump’s election. An editorial in The Amherst Student newspaper criticized him for bringing alcohol to class, and suggested that college officials hold him “accountable” for supporting a candidate the paper’s editorial board thought was bigoted, homophobic and misogynist.
“There are students on this campus whose lives and civil liberties will be compromised in the next four years,” the editorial said. “Not only does Amherst’s nonpartisan stance invalidate their struggles, but brash and insensitive political partisanship creates irreparable scars.”
Dr. Arkes said that he had offered students in his class a spectrum of ways to express their feelings postelection.
For students who were grieving, he recited the Kaddish, the Jewish mourner’s prayer. For those who were celebrating, he quoted Churchill about not gloating: “In victory, magnanimity.”
Finally, in what he said was intended as a comic gesture, he pulled out the champagne. But mindful that he might be accused of offering an alcoholic beverage to underage students, he did not uncork it.
Now it seemed, he said, that some people just could not take a joke.
“There is no urbanity or humor — or the wit to deal with challenge, grave or light,” he wrote in an email. “They can respond only in ‘boilerplate,’ quite predictable reflexes — so predictable that I did predict it easily.”

It must be tough going through life being utterly humorless.
Why bother even getting out of bed in the morning?
How do you lefties do it?

A Line-by-Line Take Down of ‘Baby, It’s Cold Outside’
12/19/2014 09:52 am ET | Updated Feb 18, 2015

‘Tis the season to be sexist, with the “traditional” Christmas pop played on an eternal loop, reinforcing old gender stereotypes about boys only wanting cowboy boots and guns while girls insist on walking, talking dollies. There’s the infernal Love, Actually movie which, despite its charming British accents and treacly warm-fuzzy moments, is mind-bogglingly offensive in its depiction of women as nothing more than the embodiments of men’s romantic and/or sexual fantasies. But the worst offender — particularly this year, when it seems the epidemic of sexual assault and violence against women is finally getting the media attention it deserves — is the classic winter song “Baby, It’s Cold Outside.”
To be fair, the tune was written in 1944, long before the Pill, Roe v. Wade, Free to Be You and Me — and only a measly 24 years after women got the right to vote. There was “no such thing” as marital rape back then (in fact, it wasn’t until 19-freakin-93 that marital rape became illegal in all 50 states). If you think our date rape culture is bad now, imagine it back in the ‘40s!
Which begs the question: if our rape problem is still so bad today, 70 years later, but we’re at least now aware of this problem, then why does this creepy song still get so much play? Most of its new versions have been recorded in the last decade, with three new versions released in the past year! Yes, it’s a catchy tune, with some linguistically clever back-and-forths that make for a fun (or at least, fun-to-record) duet — even we can’t help but sing along! But in the age of campus rape awareness (finally!) and Bill Cosby allegations, how can so many contemporary artists (and listeners) not be more conflicted about a song that basically sanctions date rape — roofies and all?
Let’s break it down:
I really can’t stay / But, baby, it’s cold outside
I’ve got to go away / But, baby, it’s cold outside
This evening has been / Been hoping that you’d drop in
So very nice / I’ll hold your hands they’re just like ice
Okay, she states her intentions clearly and they’re immediately met with his undermining tactics and pressure. And did he just subtly suggest that she’s “frigid”? Nice negging.
My mother will start to worry / Beautiful, what’s your hurry
My father will be pacing the floor / Listen to the fireplace roar
If her mother and father are waiting for her, then she’s probably still living at home — she may not even be old enough to legally drink (or legally give sexual consent!).
So really I’d better scurry /  Beautiful, please don’t hurry
Never trust someone you’re still getting to know who calls you “Beautiful” instead of your actual name — you are not an individual, you’re a notch.
Well, maybe just half a drink more / Put some records on while I pour
Do not let him do the pouring! Stay with your drink at all times.
The neighbors might think / Baby, it’s bad out there
Say what’s in this drink / No cabs to be had out there
How can listeners not be picturing Bill Cosby in a garish Christmas sweater right now?
I wish I knew how / Your eyes are like starlight now
To break this spell / I’ll take your hat, your hair looks swell
The incessant flattery is a pretty creepy attempt to break down her will.
I ought to say no, no, no, sir / Mind if I move in closer
Okay, it admittedly gets a little fuzzy here (but maybe that’s because of what he put in her drink!). She shouldn’t mince words, she should say “no” flat out — and she does, later in the song! But here, let’s not blame the victim. And, yes, good for him that he asked permission to move in closer, but does anyone listening believe he would respect her wishes and not inch nearer if she said, “Uh, thanks, but I’m good”?
At least I’m gonna say that I tried / What’s the sense of hurting my pride
I really can’t stay / Baby, don’t hold out
[Both] Baby, it’s cold outside
Ugh, now we’re getting into the tired, well-trod territory of the sexual double standard: how women need to protect their reputations and deny their own sexuality, while men have to be virulent sexual creatures as a matter of pride. Add to that his underhanded attempt to appeal to her socially-constructed feminine desire to be accommodating and inoffensive and friendly. And please, let’s not use the Blurred Lines, I-know-you-want-it excuse that she obviously would like to stay and have sex with him but can’t because of the cultural mores of the time: a person can be conflicted about their feelings, but ultimately assert their intentions clearly, as she does — and those intentions need to be respected.
I simply must go / Baby, it’s cold outside
The answer is no / Baby, it’s cold outside
There it is! Couldn’t be clearer.
The welcome has been / How lucky that you dropped in
So nice and warm / Look out the window at the storm
He’s starting to sound like Kathy Bates in Misery.
My sister will be suspicious / Gosh your lips look delicious
My brother will be there at the door / Waves upon a tropical shore
My maiden aunt’s mind is vicious / Gosh your lips are delicious
But maybe just a cigarette more /Never such a blizzard before
So the lesson for boys is: ignore her, break her argument down at every turn, steal a kiss, and that’s when you’ll start to get somewhere sexually. Classy.
I got to get home / But, baby, you’d freeze out there
Say lend me a coat /  It’s up to your knees out there
You’ve really been grand / I thrill when you touch my hand
But don’t you see / How can you do this thing to me
Blue balls are no longer a valid defense in the court of public opinion.
There’s bound to be talk tomorrow / Think of my life long sorrow
And the lesson learned by girls is: your number one priority is not to be perceived as a slut.
At least there will be plenty implied / If you caught pneumonia and died
When all else fails, use the threat of imminent death as your P.U.A. power play. Isn’t that one of Mystery’s moves outlined in the The Game?
I really can’t stay / Get over that old doubt
[Both] Baby, it’s cold
[Both] Baby, it’s cold outside
The answer to the question of why this is now a Christmas “standard” is, of course, that sexism is alive and well today as the one remaining prejudice that’s still socially acceptable to entertain publicly. Because it’s funny. Because it’s no big deal. Hey, lighten up! Tell that to the women in this New York Times magazine article who said no, were ignored, and froze during their on-campus assaults.
The only way this song even remotely works in this day and age is with the roles reversed: a man singing the call and a woman singing the return — though still questionable, at least it’s subversive and philosophically interesting. They did it in the 1949 musical Neptune’s Daughter, which features both versions and seems pretty revolutionary for the time (the pushy man is pretty sleazy; the pushy woman is pure slapstick)
And those recordings are happening more often in the 21st century. But which of the Zooey Deschanel versions are you more familiar with: the She & Him one which does just that, or the traditional version with her and Leon Redbone (from the movie Elf)?
And that’s why, to all the traditional (read: sexist) versions we hear on the radio, we say “Bah, humbug!”

.... written by those with way too much time on their hands, concurred with by those with way too much space between their ears.
Cuz rapists don't rape women - Christmas carols do!!!!

Bullshit.
Despite the headline of the article, the Times was unable to quote even a single conservative claiming that they needed a safe space, instead employing weasel words to the effect that 'some are saying' they need a safe space. But, regardless, it is not the same thing for a person to ask for a place to be able to speak freely as it is for some gaggle of pussy snowflakes to demand a safe space where they won't have to hear the unpalatable ideas of those with whom they disagree. Yes, kind of a big fucking difference, no matter what you may say.

Yeah. It is the same.  In this case, it's Trump supporters asking for a place to "speak freely" without "having to hear the unpalatable ideas of those with whom they disagree."

Let's face reality... many college students have now become "special snowflakes," regardless of ideology.

At least it won't be an easy ride for conservatives, either.

Conservatism in the Era of Trump
http://www.nationalreview.com/article/443236/donald-trump-conservatism-right-wing-future

Quote :
Freedom Caucus members — and Ryan, notably — issued ecstatic statements lauding Mulvaney’s selection as a sign of Trump’s commitment to fiscal responsibility. That’s one way of looking at it. Another way is this: Trump just sidelined one of the House’s most outspoken conservatives, someone who repeatedly stood up to Republican leadership, thereby weakening potential intra-party resistance to his administration’s initiatives.

These dueling outlooks frame an essential and defining question for Republicans entering the era of Trump: With unified control of government and a president who bullied his way into the White House, will Congress dare to flout recent history and serve as a principled check on the executive?

. . .

“If we as conservatives lose our bearings, if we go the wrong direction — we’ve seen that in the past, we saw Republicans stray away in the ’70s, we saw Republicans stray away from the core principles during the Bush 43 presidency — if we stray away, then that will provide the particle that allows the Democratic party to come back,” Texas congressman Bill Flores, the outgoing chairman of the Republican Study Committee, said during a recent forum at the American Enterprise Institute.

Then again, if congressional Republicans are as deferential to Donald Trump as they were to George W. Bush, conservatives shouldn’t be concerned about the 45th president straying from the party’s core principles. They should worry that he’ll redefine those principles altogether.

Cops: U-M student lied about man threatening to burn hijab

Katrease Stafford , Detroit Free Press7:51 a.m. EST December 22, 2016

A University of Michigan student who told police in November that a man threatened to set her hijab on fire could face charges after investigators discovered she fabricated the entire story, police announced Wednesday.
According to a statement from the Ann Arbor Police Department, detectives worked along with the U-M Division of Public Safety and the FBI to investigate the case, which had been classified as ethnic intimidation.
"Investigators conducted witness interviews and reviewed multiple surveillance videos of the area in question," the department said. "During the course of the investigation, numerous inconsistencies in the statements provided by the alleged victim were identified. Following a thorough investigation, detectives have determined the incident in question did not occur."

The student has not been publicly identified by police, but investigators said a completed investigation will be submitted to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor's Office for review, according to the release.
The student initially claimed the incident happened Nov. 11 when a man allegedly demanded she remove her hijab, a headscarf often worn by Muslim women, or be set on fire with a lighter.
The woman told police she complied, according to a crime alert from the university's division of public safety.
The university at the time called it a hate crime and said the off-campus incident occurred in the 600 block of East William, near State Street.
After the incident, the Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations called for the incident to be investigated as a hate crime, saying the “alleged attack is just the latest anti-Muslim incident reported since the election of Donald Trump as president.”
The student made the report during a post-election increase in reports of threats, intimidation and racially charged violence around the country.

And on and on it goes.

.... during a post-election increase in reports of threats, intimidation and racially charged violence around the country.

I like the way the reporter gave herself some wiggle room by framing it as an increase of "reports of threats, intimidation and racially charged violence " rather than an increase in actual incidents.

REVEALED: The Brooklyn lawyer who chased down Ivanka on a JetBlue flight and his Hillary supporter husband who BOASTED about the verbal attack before they were thrown off

• A passenger on a JetBlue flight accosted Ivanka Trump on Thursday morning
• 'Your father is ruining the country,' said Dan Goldstein, a lawyer from Brooklyn, who had a child in his arms
• He then began demanding to know why Ivanka was on the flight and not travelling on a private plane while she sat with her kids
• Ivanka ignored him and tried to preoccupy her children with crayons while the man berated her
• A fellow passenger said later that Ivanka told security and flight staff she did not want to make the incident a thing and have anyone removed from the flight
• The man's husband, Matthew Lasner, later tweeted: 'My husband expressed his displeasure in a calm tone, JetBlue staff overheard, and they kicked us off'
• However one hour before that he wrote on Twitter: 'Ivanka and Jared at JFK T5, flying commercial. My husband chasing them down to harass them'
• Lasner and Goldstein were accommodated on the next available flight according to JetBlue, and Lasner deleted his Twitter account soon after
• Ivanka and her family are heading away for the holiday, meaning they will be spending 12 straight hours on the plane

A Brooklyn lawyer confronted Ivanka Trump and said her father is 'ruining this country' while she was on a plane with her children.

were thrown off of the JetBlue flight from New York to San Francisco on Thursday when they accosted the future first daughter and started shouting at her.
While holding a child in his arms Goldstein, 35,  began screaming: 'Why is she on our flight. She should be flying private.'
Ivanka paid as little attention as possible and tried to preoccupy her children with some crayons to diffuse the situation until the crew escorted him off the plane.
Lasner, said that was not what happened however on Twitter, writing: 'My husband expressed his displeasure in a calm tone, JetBlue staff overheard, and they kicked us off the plane.'
But just an hour prior to that Lasner wrote on Twitter: 'Ivanka and Jared at JFK T5, flying commercial. My husband chasing them down to harass them. #banalityofevil'

But, regardless, it is not the same thing for a person to ask for a place to be able to speak freely as it is for some gaggle of pussy snowflakes to demand a safe space where they won't have to hear the unpalatable ideas of those with whom they disagree.

I think it's more than a little ironic that you're defending those of "non-left persuasion" when most righties frequent the ultimate "safe space" where they "won't have to hear the unpalatable ideas of those with whom they disagree." That safe space is called the Fox News Network.
