Race to the Race Card Empty
PostSubject: Race to the Race Card   Race to the Race Card Empty2/11/2015, 6:01 pm

It appears as if the 'Reverend' Al Sharpton was beaten to the punch this time by the 'Reverend' Jesse Jackson.
C'mon, Al - you're slipping. You should have been all over this.

Little League cheating call raises allegations of racism

Little League International announced Wednesday morning that the Jackie Robinson West All-Stars had players in its lineup who lived outside the team's boundaries.
At an afternoon press conference, the Rev. Jesse Jackson asked, "Is this about boundaries or race?"
"This decision's untimely and inappropriate at this time," Jackson told reporters. "It should not take six months after a team has played a championship game to determine eligibility to play the game in the first place."
The league's decision came after teams from Illinois and Nevada complained that Jackie Robinson West's roster was rigged.
The Rev. Michael Pfleger called the complaints from the Illinois team "mean-spirited" and "personal."
"When you're going over to voter registration and going to birth certificates and doing all this time of hunting and a witch hunt that's been going on for the last number of months, I can't help but wonder the question if the same thing would have been done with another team from another place, another race," Pfleger said.
Officials from the Illinois and Nevada teams spoke to CBS News before the league announced its decision.
"Little League has very specific rules in terms of where somebody should live in order to play for a particular little league," Evergreen Park Little League Vice President Chris Janes of Illinois said. "JRW's boundaries are very specific and do not extend into any suburbs."
Nevada's Mountain Ridge made it all the way to the U.S. final, eventually losing to Jackie Robinson West.
"They tricked people, and they blindsided others, and they did those things that were strategic but illegal," Mountain Ridge coach Ashton Cave said.
"It's just a matter of integrity and dignity, and it's just awful," Mountain Ridge parent Kristi Black said.
An inquiry by Little League International last year exonerated the Jackie Robinson squad, but new information reopened the residency wrangle, much to the consternation of the Chicago team's boosters.
"We had to provide birth certificates, proof of schools, light bills, so we had to prove our residency in order to join the team," Jackie Robinson West parent Venisa Green said before Wednesday's decision.
At Wednesday's press conference, Green said she was "blindsided" by the league's decision and that she heard about it on the radio as she was driving her son Brandon to school.
"It is amazing to me that whenever African-Americans exceed the expectations that there is always going to be fault," Green said.
Jackson called on the Las Vegas team to not accept its newly awarded championship, saying the team "did not earn" it.

Wow, it took them this long to figure out those kids were from Dolton, Lansing, Lynwood and South Holland?

Residency issues should have been settled before even the first level of the All-Star tournament began.

Every team should be looked into. JRW isn't the only one.
For example...

CHICAGO (WLS) --
The decision to strip JRW of its national title is raising questions about how widespread cheating may be throughout Little League.

A coach who competes against JRW in the same district told ABC 7 that for years, JRW and other teams have used players from outside their boundaries, and until now, Little League officials turned a blind eye.

Renee Cannon-Young sees hypocrisy in the stripping of JRW's title.

In 2011, she says her son Jacoby was recruited to play in Evergreen Park's Little League, despite living on Chicago's South Side.

"The paperwork was filled out for me," Cannon-Young said. "I was told that although he was not a resident of Evergreen Park, they were going to fix that so that he could play. Just use another address, and he would be able to play."

………

JRW isn't the first team to violate residency rules, according to the head of Little League International.

"These types of things do happen occasionally at the local level, but they're usually sorted out pretty much when the local tournament begins because neighbors know neighbors," said Stephen D. Keener, president and CEO of Little League International.

In fact, former major league pitcher and South Holland native Mark Mulder tweeted Wednesday: "JRW Little League has been cheating and doing things the wrong way since I played them as a kid..."

.........

I agree that all teams should be looked into, but the coach from Evergreen Park who initially questioned the legitimacy of the Jackie Robinson West All-Star team was well within his rights to do so, and he should not have to be dealing with death threats, if his claim to that effect is true. He did nothing wrong.
I was involved with Little League in several different capacities for nearly 10 years. There were two leagues in close proximity whose boundaries swallowed up three different grade schools, one of them a parochial school. Enrollment at the parochial school was not limited by any boundaries, so about half of those students fell within the boundaries of League A, while the other half fell within the boundaries of League B. Some of the kids formed friendships based upon who they hung out with at school, rather than making friends within their respective Little League boundaries. When it came time to enroll in Little League, sometimes a kid would use the address of a grandparent or other relative in order to be able to play in the league which was comprised of most of his or her friends. Most of the time, people tended to look the other way, but it was made very clear at the outset that, due to the questionable nature of their residencies, those kids would be strictly hands off when it came time to assemble the All-Star teams. Technically, it was not legal, but if all those involved were OK with those terms, then no one made an issue of it because no other leagues were affected. But when it came time to pick the All-Star teams, every coach and league official knew full well that each kid would have to have all of his or her qualifications (residency, age, requisite minimum participation in regular season games, etc.) vetted very carefully before even being considered for the team in order to avoid a situation such as the one created by Jackie Robinson West.
Having said all that, race has absolutely zero to do with this decision, and those who claim that it does are making huge asses of themselves.
As usual.

I agree...When my son was playing we had to have utility bills, Driver's License, etc.  Come on...they are from Chicago and they have kids from Lynwood?  They even had the kid's name from Lynwood on the town's sign congratulating him!

I can’t blame the kids at all in this matter; most 12 year-olds probably aren’t even aware of residency requirements, and that's the saddest part of this. However, if this had been an issue of age, like when that Danny Almonte kid was pitching in Little League at 15 years of age, then I would blame the kid; he would have been well aware of the age difference between him and his teammates and would have known that it was wrong.
