Exemplified by a choice quote from their American Energy Act:

Quote :
(a) IN GENERAL.—Section 302(g) of the Clean Air Act (42 U.S.C. 7602(g)) is amended by adding the following at the end thereof: ‘‘The term ‘air pollutant’ shall not include carbon dioxide, water vapor, methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons, or sulfur hexafluoride.

. . .

(b) IMPACT OF GREENHOUSE GAS.—The impact of greenhouse gas on any species of fish or wildlife or plant shall not be considered for any purpose in the implementation of this Act.

They are apparently still operating under the hilarious belief that if you close your eyes and wish really, really hard, you can make such things disappear.

:shakehead:

Climate Progress has an informative write up on this failure, which happens to be all but identical to Bush's failed plan.

Duh!
Low-Effort Thought Promotes Political Conservatism
Quote :
Abstract

The authors test the hypothesis that low-effort thought promotes political conservatism. In Study 1, alcohol intoxication was measured among bar patrons; as blood alcohol level increased, so did political conservatism (controlling for sex, education, and political identification). In Study 2, participants under cognitive load reported more conservative attitudes than their no-load counterparts. In Study 3, time pressure increased participants’ endorsement of conservative terms. In Study 4, participants considering political terms in a cursory manner endorsed conservative terms more than those asked to cogitate; an indicator of effortful thought (recognition memory) partially mediated the relationship between processing effort and conservatism. Together these data suggest that political conservatism may be a process consequence of low-effort thought; when effortful, deliberate thought is disengaged, endorsement of conservative ideology increases.

I don't care at this pont who is running in the GOP. I am still confident that MAYBE thy will throw someone in at the last minute. Not to settle for just anyone, including the POTUS who. by my obsevance, doesn't stand a chance. People have yet to see one freaking thing come true with DUMBO. Just re-play his 2008 speeches..which the media is doing a good job of, to show you he is good at talking from telepromters, but otherwise a total failure. NOONE but Obama couldn't drag this country further down.

Dream on. He's toast. His wife is a big loaf of Pano Bread yet to be toasted. 2000 calorie meal at a state dinner for governors with a different, unmentioned price or KIND of wine with each course, which must mean, one bottle with the bread, the salad, the meal, etc. Before and after, mingling. Dumb bling-blings. Bush didn't drink, golf as much as this potus, and wouldn't dare send his thirteen year old to a drug-ridden country with 12 other kids with 25 body guards to teach them South Chicago values.

Should have sent her without bodyguards and armed her and the twelve others with guns if you wanted to show her the south side VALUES.

Damn ignorant idiots on the taxpayers' dime. Sending her to the most dangerous country. This POTUS has no freaking clue what the hell he does. It doesn't cost him anything, and they have 25 armed babysitters. I hope they all go back to the south side of chicago and occupy Jesse Jackson, Jr.'s neighborhood, cuz that's where they belong. They'll get secret service alright, but if they want "SouthSide values," the only way to get it is to live there without bodyguards. Not in Hyde Park

What a waste of money protecting these Chi-L:ites. They got it made. Freaking liars and living off the public dime. By the way, Flotus, you look 30 years older wearing your hair like the slaves did. Your body does no justice. Your hair now corresponds with your body. P.S. Your sleevless dresses went out of style a couple months ago. Act and dress your old age. affraid

I hate fakes. You have butlers? Get rid of them and tell your kids to fetch shitz themselves, if you want southside values.

Typical ghetto people.

Obama is NOT going to be in office next term. Get used to it.

Barack,Michelle,Malia or even 10yr old Sasha Obama accomplish more in one day than you have in your entire life.

Every time you post a political thought you validate the findings of that study I posted earlier today in this thread.

And also their nominee for president thinks it's still 1963:
Quote :
The Never-Ending Cold War

Two decades after the end of the cold war, Mitt Romney still considers Russia to be America’s “No. 1 geopolitical foe.” His comments display either a shocking lack of knowledge about international affairs or just craven politics. Either way, they are reckless and unworthy of a major presidential contender.

Mr. Romney couldn’t wait to pounce when President Obama told President Dmitri Medvedev of Russia — in a conversation at a nuclear arms summit meeting picked up by a microphone — that he would have more flexibility on missile defense and other arms issues after the election. First, this is an honest statement of fact, as Mr. Romney’s reaction clearly demonstrated. The political atmosphere in Washington is so poisonous that cooperation on any issue right now is near impossible. Mr. Romney accused Mr. Obama of signaling that, postelection, he would “cave” on missile defense. In Foreign Policy Magazine on Tuesday, Mr. Romney accused him of bowing to Russia on nuclear arms cuts and Iran. That is not true.

GOP Tennessee Governor Haslam to Sign Anti-Evolution Bill
Quote :
Meanwhile in Tennessee, Republican Governor Bill Haslam has announced that he’ll “probably” sign a right wing bill protecting teachers who tell their students that evolution and global warming are not real: Anti-Evolution ‘Monkey Bill’ Poised to Become Law in Tennessee.

Quote :
Although the bill is written to seem benign, as it neither specifically authorizes the teaching of creationism nor permits teachers to do more than criticize scientific theories “in an objective matter,” the practical impact of this bill will be to intimidate all but the heartiest of school administrators against disciplining teachers who preach the most outlandish junk science in their classrooms. Because the bill provides little guidance as to what constitutes an “objective” criticism of a scientific theory, any principal who reigns in teachers who force creationism or Pastafarianism upon their students risks finding themselves on the wrong side of the law.

In reality, of course, there are few, if any, “objectively” valid objections to the theory of evolution (or, for that matter, to global warming). Rather, as Travis Waldron explained when this bill passed a legislative committee nearly a year ago, “Scientists have reached a consensus that evolution is ‘one of the most robust and widely accepted principles of modern science,’ and as such, it is ‘a core element in science education.’”
This is the modern Republican Party in the 21st century, folks — anti-science religious fanatics, continually trying to sneak their Dark Ages atavism into public schools and force it on everyone’s children. And in the Tea Party era, they’re actually succeeding, in the states that can least afford to be teaching ignorance.

Science and the doubting conservatives

Common sense, as well as past research, suggests that distrust of science correlates with lack of education; the less education a person has, the more likely he or she will favor traditional beliefs or religious dogma over scientific evidence. There's even an academic name for this theory: the "deficit model" of scientific literacy. When it comes to modern conservatives, however, the deficit model does not apply.

Analyzing results from the General Social Survey, which has been conducted by the University of Chicago's National Opinion Research Center since 1972, Gauchat found that for conservatives with college degrees, trust in science declined more over time than it did forconservatives with only a high school degree. (This was not true for liberals or moderates, whose views on science have been relatively static for decades.)

. . .

The results are dramatic. In 1974, people who identified themselves as conservatives were the most likely group to have a high degree of trust in science; now they're the least trustful. As Gauchat argues, this can probably be blamed on both the growing influence of the religious right, which rejects scientific contradictions of religious teachings on such issues as evolution and stem-cell research, and the growing use of science to inform public policy in such areas as environmental protection. Conservatives, ever wary of government interference with the free market, started to resent the scientists whose findings suggested such interference was necessary. Rather than debate remedies, they have turned on science itself.

Science doesn't just produce useful gadgets; it has propelled the advance of human society from the dawn of civilization to the modern world. Its politicization is a worrisome step backward.

Today's conservatives are an absolute embarrassment to the former.
