| Gov. Daniels not running for president - Quote :
- WASHINGTON | Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels said early Sunday that he won't run for president because of family concerns, a development that narrowed the Republican nomination field though made the wide-open race even more uncertain.
"In the end, I was able to resolve every competing consideration but one," the Republican said, disclosing his decision in a middle-of-the-night e-mail to supporters. "The interests and wishes of my family, is the most important consideration of all. If I have disappointed you, I will always be sorry."
A two-term Midwestern governor, Daniels had been considering a bid for months and was pressured by many in the establishment wing of the party hungering for a conservative with a strong fiscal record to run. He expressed interest in getting in the race partly because it would give him a national platform to ensure the country's fiscal health would remain part of the 2012 debate.
But he always said his family — his wife and four daughters — was a sticking point. This certainly widens the door for the nutcases like Palin to jump into the race.

| Tick...tick...tick.. Gingrich aides resign; campaign in questionAssociated Press 2:59 PM CDT, June 9, 2011 WASHINGTON (AP) - Quote :
The entire top echelon of New Gingrich's presidential campaign resigned on Thursday, a stunning mass exodus that left his bid for the Republican nomination in tatters.
Rick Tyler, the former U.S. House speaker's spokesman, said that he, campaign manager Rob Johnson and senior strategists had all quit, along with aides in the early primary and caucus states of Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina.
Other officials said Gingrich was informed that his entire high command was quitting in a meeting at his campaign headquarters in Washington. They cited differences over the direction of the campaign.
Scott Rials, a longtime aide who joined the departure, said he doubted Gingrich's ability to win the nomination.
"I think the world of him. But at the end of the day we just could not see a clear path to win, and there was a question of commitment," Rials told The Associated Press. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/chi-newt-gingrich-aides,0,7736792.story

| He might have been a viable candidate, if he didn't have a different wife in every section of the revolving door. | |

- Gingrich campaign finance team quits

The top fundraisers for Newt Gingrich's presidential campaign have abandoned his struggling bid amid anemic fundraising and heavy spending.
Campaign spokesman R.C. Hammond is confirming to The Associated Press that fundraising director Jody Thomas and fundraising consultant Mary Heitman have left the team.
The former House speaker's campaign has been on life support since earlier this month when 16 top aides and advisers resigned en masse over disagreements with the Republican candidate.
People familiar with Gingrich's campaign spending say his fundraising has been weak since he launched his bid and that he has racked up large travel bills. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk openly about campaign inner workings.
Gingrich has insisted that he will stay in the race. The funniest part is the "large travel bills". Wooing voters in Greece & Turkey? Luxury cruise has Newt Gingrich in hot water - Quote :
- Newly minted presidential candidate Newt Gingrich is taking a lot of heat this week for being discovered on a two-week Seabourn Cruise Line sailing through Greece and Turkey.
Politico first reported that Gingrich had "vanished from the campaign trail last week for a holiday on a luxury cruise liner."
Gingrich and his wife are reportedly among the notable guests sailing on the 450-passenger Seabourn Odyssey, which reports say his campaign had kept a secret, divulging only that Gingrich and his wife were on a "a much-needed vacation." Let's see how long it takes Gingrich to start blaming the media :bball:
