I hope Cub fans realize that it's not personal,it's just a result of growing up a Sox fan on the north side of Chicago. I truly like Cubs fans. Overall, they're much more good natured than Sox fans. I guess that comes with having to put up with the team being the butt of jokes for the last hundred years. I REALLY don't get this way of thinking. I would much rather see the Sox win. I don't care what any NL team does until October. GO SOX

But I highly suspect, based upon other discussions that I've had with other so-called "Sox fans" on the Times board and elsewhere, that Artie is not alone. I seriously doubt that you'll find this kind of attitude among Cubs fans, however. Because frankly, we just don't give a damn what the team on the South Side is doing. - WhitingLib wrote:

I don't want to dwell on this but I disagree. Some Cubs fans care very much what the south side is doing. I won't go into detail, but I have personally felt the wrath of Cubs fans on several occasions (one involving property damage to my home and vehicles). While the rivalry between the two teams is fun for most of us...some people take it to the extreme. That includes so called "fans" on both sides, not just the Sox. GO SOX

Sorry that I wasn't clear, but my point was that I've never met a Cubs fan who cares more about the Sox losing than they do about the the Cubs winning. Personally, I'm much more interested in the rivalry with the Cardinals and the other teams in the NL Central than I am with any AL team. Sorry to hear about "fans" damaging your property. That really sucks.

Sorry to hear about "fans" damaging your property. That really sucks. Thanks for clearing that up Scorp. Here's to the start of a new baseball season. Good luck to your team, and mine.

I don't care how much someone hates one team or another, there is simply no excuse for that kind of behavior.

- The Chicago Cubs want to stage weekend festivals on Sheffield Avenue during three popular series this summer, a team official said today.
The idea is to close Sheffield from Addison Street to Waveland Avenue on the east side of Wrigley Field for most of the day from Friday through Sunday on three weekends in June, July and August when the Cubs face the New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox and St. Louis Cardinals, said Wally Hayward, chief of sales and marketing for the club.
Tickets would not be needed to get into the area, where family entertainment, food and drink would be offered, Are they out of their freakin mind? A free warm weather festival populated by fans of opposing teams that hate each other (Sox & Cards) and lots and lots of booze. What could possibly go wrong? Nothing, apparently. From everything that I've seen and read so far, this experiment has been a resounding success.

I believe they scaled it down and held it in a parking lot across the street on Clark St instead. Factor in the miserable year the Cubs are having and that tends to put a damper on any over enthusiastic fans.

But I wouldn't expect you to even begin to understand what being a Cubs fan is all about...

Disappointment and frustration, year in and year out for over 100 years? Supporting a team that scalps it's tickets to their fans? No thanks.

I've been a Cubs fan my whole life, and I can tell you that I am neither "frustrated" or "disappointed." Like I said, you can't even begin to understand what being a Cubs fan is all about...

| In Garza's defense, he was speaking right after an emotional game in which the Cubs came back from an 8 run deficit to win. But this is a perfect example of one of the reasons why Cubs fans are so loyal to the team. The Cubs simply don't "quit." They go out there day after day, and never give up.
That's all that any real fan of the game can really ask for, when it comes down to it.

| Yep,They're on a "mission" alright... Injury forces Cubs pitcher Matt Garza to leave practice Sunday - Quote :
- MESA, Ariz. – The spring optimism anybody might have had for a big Cubs’ turnaround season took a hit right below Matt Garza’s left shoulder blade.
Throwing his first live batting practice session of the spring Sunday, the power-pitching right-hander got halfway through his schedule before a twinge in his left lat muscle sent him back to the clubhouse escorted by the team trainer.

Ricketts said the Cubs will have a "great team” in 2013 with the additions to the pitching staff, adding they’re “on a mission.” Yeah....Mission Impossible!
2013 Cubs record? 66 wins 96 lossesIt's Deja Vu folks and time for Fanboy to once again insult the fan's intelligence Tom Ricketts believes Cubs ‘can go to the playoffs’ - Quote :
- “I think we have a team right now that can go to the playoffs,” the Cubs’ chairman said Wednesday during his annual spring media conference. “We have a good young nucleus. We have to have guys that step up. … We’ve not giving anything up this year. The fact is, these guys step up and they play to their potential, we’re going to be fine.”
Pretty bold statement for a guy who cut the club’s payroll budget for the third consecutive year and hasn’t had a winning season in four years since buying the team.
One apparently stunned baseball writer pointed out the Cubs’ recent woes and lack of impact players added over the winter, then asked how Ricketts came to his conclusion.
“Look, every few years it happens somewhere,” he said. “There are teams that flip it around in one season. We have a good young nucleus of guys, and if they get back on their career trajectories that we anticipate they will — and we have a great new manager and a lot of positive energy coming through. Anything can happen.”
