Detroit’s Ombudsman says a snafu in the finance department has created anxiety for homeowners.
WWJ Newsradio 950′s Florence Walton reports some Detroiters got two tax bills and others got none.
Nearly 60,000 Detroit property tax bills we mailed out with the wrong interest rate.
“In an environment where we are told on a daily basis that the city is broke, it makes absolutely no sense what-so-ever that the city can not get their game together so that they collect money and collect it on time.” City ombudsman, Dorian Brown, says her office has been swamped with calls.
“Service delivery is linked to the resources the city has to provide them, this is outrageous that the city has not prioritizing the collection of tax money which is needed to provide the services we all deserve.” Brown stated.
“It’s the year 2011, we’ve got all kinds of technology, we’ve got an administration that tweets for Gods sake, but we can not manage to get tax bills out, and money is so desperately needed in this community, that’s a problem.” Brown continued.
Deadline for paying detroit property taxes has been extended to Jan. 19, due to the holiday and budget furlough days.

My mother, who is a senior, was very stressed she hadn’t received her tax bill. She called the City multiple times. When she finally got someone on the phone, the customer service rep said to her, “We don’t have time for your question right now. We’re busy.” And then hung up. That was before this news came out.

All the technological resources in the world don’t matter if your city administrative functions are run by a bunch of incompetents who got their jobs not by skill or knowledge, but by political connections to a corrupt, Democratic/union machine.

The City of Detroit is facing the same problem that all of the gerrymandered congressional districts face. No representation. Since our Black citizens (and many impoverished minorities) insist on voting as a herd in every election, they effectively relinquish their right to fair representation and accountable government. It has been this way in Detroit for decades. You will see the same problems in every other congressional district in the country where entrenched politicians continue to win landslides at election time, while doing nothing constructive for their people.
Examples? Maxine Waters (since 1993), Barney Frank (1981), Sheila Jackson Lee (1995), Daniel Inouye (1963), John Conyers (1965), John Dingell (1955, from his dad!) etc etc etc
Solution? TERM LIMITS, NO GERRYMANDERING (GEOGRAPHIC DISTRICTS ONLY), IMPEACHMENT.

Actually, they are represented perfectly by Congress. Conyers and Mama Cheeks (before FINALLY being voted out) are typical of the residents of Detroit,who seem to like corruption and incompetence. Unfortunately, the rest of us must bail these city denizens out constantly, via state and federal taxes we must pay to compensate for the lower tax bases in some of these urban areas.
And I agree w/gerrymandering – those of us in the suburbs often get stuck with these idiots “representing” us because of the way the districts are drawn. NO WAY do these people look out for MY interests!

Think about it this way. When Detroit hires Information Technology professionals, they cannot hire the most qualified, most skillful people to fill those positions. They have to hire people BASED ON THE COLOR OF THEIR SKIN. Therefore, inept people are hired to do what they are not qualified for. That’s one of the reasons this Country is done.
