The California Water Wars have been going on for a long time. Funny that conservatives were not whining when George was in charge.
Since I don't live in southern California, I realy don't pay much attention & I really don't give a crap...sorry.

I don't care where my lettuce tomatoes or celery come from.

Didn't you notice the many "Pete's Fresh Produce" sprouting up around not only in Indiana, but Il?

Haven't you heeded the warnings that if you actually knew that the pre-washed lettuce you pay triple for, you are advised to wash and drain before eating. If you were up to date, then you would have read in Consumer Reports, and other outlets concerned about what we purchase and consume, remind you that "if you saw the actual process of how they pre-wash those greens, claiming they were clean, are actually filled with bacteria"?

Don't you keep up with the news? My aunt found a dead grasshopper in her frozen spinach a long time ago.

It's time to buy from local farmers, or make your own garden. Last report I read two or more years ago, the Mexicans use their own bowel movements to fertilize crops. Instead of flowers, I'm planting my own garden this year. I will can the tomatos like my mom did from our own land.

You have NO clue what those Mexicans are injecting in their dirt to turn out the worst of crops in the U.S. You can find farmstands grown by local farmers even in Joliet...or do like I did years ago..get a bunch of us together, when the farmers left their crops to rot...take black garbage bags, fill up ten dozen of them... blanch them, give them away.. right off 294...join me when it's time for them to leave good crops rot.

I go to Michigan and get my crops for way less than any Mexican store. I know where it comes from, cuz I pick it myself.

If you want human waste to fertilize your crops buying from the sprung up Mexican colored. sign-slapped no English signs, be my guest. I mentioned in the past we bought limes from one...that was about it.

Grow your own...I have a strip of land that I used for planting flowers...this year it will be tomatos and peppers, cucumbers and stuff I can freeze. I don't need Mexico.

I've never know life without a garden since the late '80s. My cousins visit and bring me fresh lettuce..This time, I'm growing it myself, cuz i DON'T TRUST WHERE OUR FOOD COMES FROM. My gram had her own chickens and made her own "KETCHUP". If I could just learn the ketchup part, I think I would be honoring her. She taught me how to make homemade rugs that they charge over ten bucks a piece for clearance at Menards...I'm learning how to do that again....out of rags.

It's time to tell the Obama administration, you can talk all you want, but I'm going back to the basics. Make my own USA products. And screw YOU. I forgot...I know how to sew....my sis has the machine...time for a fight.LOL.

If you don't care how or where your veggies were grown, then you are not educated. Nor would you eat them if you only knew.

I dare you to taste eggs from free-roaming chickens in MO and compare them to those we purchase here, and brown doesn't make a difference.

I dare you to revisit the taste of real home-grown lettuce, fresh out of the garden, compared to the crap sitting in the grocery aisle, rotting to death, especially if it says"Organic", and watch how much they throw in the dumpster.

Your're brainwashed.

Home-made pickles with tons of garlic, home-grown dill, by the gallon, free from a farmer every year....you get stuck paying 4.00 or more for something that takes a few minutes to make yourself, vs. Valastic.

Fresh produced like Asparagus can be bought for dollars less at farmstands...and you don't need to blanch them anymore. Latest is, you wash, dry and pack them away in the freezer. Go toa store after the season is over, you pay four times more for wilted left overs, vitamins disappeared....

Point is, where you grow flowers, grow veggies. Freeze or can them. My parents have two upright freezers and spend 1/4 of of what 2 people live on year long....store the potatos/onions, 50 lb/ sacks lasts you all winter.

Quit relying on the Mexicans in Mexico...learn to rely on yourself.

Why is this posted here? Edge doesn't post here anymore. Why do you think that the other posters here give a damn about what "edge" thinks?

This is supposed to be a frickin' "discussion" forum, not your own personal bulletin board. This sure as hell doesn't belong on the National Forum.

I usually wash whatever I bring home. However, I just got an email telling me to wash strawberries in soap and water. I took it as an April Fool's gag - comments?

Why is ok under YOUR National Forum on theotherboard.com...?

So why did you proceed to tell KarenT how to properly wash strawberries when that wasn't the subject?

The subject is National: Where our food comes from when we should be paying our farmers to plant, instead of paying them not to plant, which has been the case in my family of farmers with idle land, getting paid not to farm, so we can use impoprt from Mexico?

How is that not National?

Burp up, Jack.

I already told you that I don't post there. IMHO, posts from discussion forums located elsewhere are irrelevant. I assume that one of the purposes of any discussion forum is to create an online community. Your constant references to posts that don't exist on this forum are getting really irritating.

I guess it all depends on what kind of discussion board the posters here want this to be...

Where do we draw the line? Should we start responding to posters on Chicago forums as well?

Unlike "edge," Karen is an active poster on this forum. She asked an honest question, so I decided to answer it.

My only objection was your reference to "edge." in the title of this thread. If "edge" has something to say, then there is nothing to stop him from posting here, is there?

You're right; I should not have brought up names. I should have just said "someone" stated on the other board....blah, blah.

I feel so strongly about the fact that we have so much land that we can produce our own produce.

I see no reason why the gov't is paying my uncle with thousands of acres to not plant, and he takes that money and makes a nursery right outside his door with gov't money. I love my Uncle, he's so darn funny and loveable, and yet, I can't respect or blame him at the same time.

Why is the gov't paying farmers not to farm here, and expect us to trust where our veggies and fruit come from.

Besides all that, you know if they don't freeze string beans within a few days, volumes of vitamins are lost...that goes for string beans at the farmers' stand. So, I buy frozen. Point is, we don't know where our veggies and fruit is coming from and it's just not right.

How long was the fruit in a trailer before it hit the supermarket? Where did it come from? It affects the vitamin content if you don't know how long it traveled "fresh". String beans, etc., loose their vitamins after a certain time.

Like I said, plant your own, buy or pick your own, freeze or can immediately. Otherwise it's worthless. How someone doesn't care where their vegs/fruits come from is what got me mad...you have to be stupid not caring.
