| http://www.suntimes.com/business/1972311,chicago-tribune-raises-price-newspaper-010410.articleEventually, Sun-Times will do the same and the sista' papers. I have to laugh. I get more news on-line than these farks deliver two to three days later. I refuse to even buy any newspaper unless it's theWallStreet Journal, or USA Today, if I'm traveling out of town where computer access is slow and annoying. Watch the Sun-Times and sister papers go down. Geeze, between Christmas and New Year's, no news was good news. Now they want to raise the price at the Tribune? Bye, bye newspapers. Even the Post-Trib sucks. When they tell you to subscribe for "X" amount of dollars, kiss my bootie. Even if the rest follow that pattern, it doesn't scare me. Those reporters can go on-line, on their own, and not ask you for money. Seems the digital age is going to backfire on these newspapers. They deliver NOTHING for a buck. Much less, 25 cents. Would you pay $1.00 a day for a paper that is repeat news from the web? Coupons? Download them free. The guy, Zell, put himself in a hole, and thinks people will pull him out of it. Bye, bye., Zell. | |

| I buy the Times. I like to read it at the counter when I eat breakfast. There's more in the paper than online, and no computer where I want to read. The Post-Trib called several years ago and offered a free trial. However, they then told me the price - not free! | |

| Karen, I admit I am like you. On rare occasions when I go out for breakfast, if the restaurant doesn't supply it free. I will go buy it out on the stand. However, the stands most of the time keep the money, and the doors don't open. So, like the other week, I went and borrowed a newspaper from some elderly men meeting for breakfast, and were talking away. They allowed me to read their Sun-Times while eating breakfast. Otherwise, I just log on to my phone and read the internet while eating breakfast. I will NOT pay the buck that takes me ten minutes to read. I have to change that habit, assume there isn't a newspaper out there (restaurants used to provide them free but, no longer). I guess what I'm getting at is, no one like it used to be, will be sliding 50 cents in, much less a buck unlesss your phone/computer is down. Many restaurants quit buying them for you to read while patronizing. I've been back in Hammond since Thanksgiving, and the morning breakfast places I used to visit, don't buy the paper for customers to read anymore, That used to be my time alone. I now make breakfast at home and log on to every newspaper I want, and unfortunately, this has a ripple effect on popular breakfast places. Include the now $5.00 to $7.00 for a breakfast worth $3.00, leave a tip, and add a buck for the paper...stay home, make your breakfast for two bucks, and no tip. Eat it while scanning newspapers online. Those newspapers won't be around in 2012. I'm preparing myself ahead of time. Oh, I give the IL/IndianaTimes one year...and zip, they are gone, online and materialize-wize. Absolutely no news whatsoever. | |

| I should have made this a poll. How many of you out there are willing to shell out a buck for a daily newspaper, such as the Chicago Tribune? If you don't answer, you don't know English or read computer boards. Hell, if they depend on gangs to pick up the slack, forget it. They don't even watch tv to see if they are "wanted". | |

| """""""Times has no news to even sell on-line. Tribune, too. Karen, a dollar a day to pick up a non newsworthy paper to reae while you pay seven bucks for two eggs, some free hash browns you barely touch and never ordered in the first place, but the two links of sausage, no cofee, two buck tip, and if you spend seventy five cents on the Times or Post-Tribune, leave a tip, what the heck cost more?
The paper with no news that is good news. Heck, used to be the restaurants had newspapers available for you to read while eating breakfast. Now they tell you to go to the newstand outside to buy it, hoping you will leave it behind. Nothing worth reading, unless you have a bird-cage to line, so you pity the next fool an leave it behind.
I can scan it, read it before breakfast arrives. Now I know why restaurant owners don't make it a point to buy it for you people who like to read while eating.
Ain't worth 25 cents. I read my sidekick; sidephone, whatever, get three times the news. | |
