| Well this honeymoon sure didn't last long Did these idiot wingnuts actually think that a guy representing Massachusetts was going to vote as if he were Tom “I love gridlock, I think we’re better off when we’re gridlocked because we’re not passing things.” Coburn R-Oklahoma? Brown may have an "R" after his name but he still represents a progressive state. GOP's Brown branded turncoat for jobs bill vote - Quote :
- BOSTON – A month after being crowned the darling of national conservatives, Republican Sen. Scott Brown of Massachusetts is being branded "Benedict Brown" for siding with Democrats in favor of a jobs bill endorsed by the Obama administration.
Like the four other GOP senators who joined him, the man who won the late Democrat Edward Kennedy's seat says it's about jobs, not party politics. And that may be good politics, too.
The four other GOP senators who broke ranks — Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins of Maine, George Voinovich of Ohio and Christopher "Kit" Bond of Missouri — also were criticized on Tuesday. But Brown was the big target on conservative Web sites, talk shows and even the Facebook page his campaign has promoted as an example of his new-media savvy.
"We campaigned for you. We donated to your campaign. And you turned on us like every other RINO," said one writer, using the initials for "Republican-In-Name-Only."
The conservative-tilting Drudge Report colored a photo of Brown on its home page in scarlet.

| I don't know what all the fuss is about. If you listened to him you shouldn't be surprised that he is who he said he is. No one should have expected him to be an ultra conservative, but when you represent the reddest of red states having taken over Ted Kennedy's old barely cold seat to vote against a major jobs bill is political suicide, I think. Now if he does a 180 degree turn on being the 41st vote on healthcare that's no different than Obama's failed pledge of no new taxes on people making under $250k.
I will grant you that some in the Tea Party are a bit disappointed but this is but 1 vote and at this point only a cloture vote at that. The significance of the Brown victory was never that he would be the conservative icon despite what anyone might have wished. It was that everyone is sick of Dem gridlock due to an unwillingness to give & take which Brown said his vote symbolized an effort to take the 1st step towards.
So while I don't agree with his vote I believe I do understand his reasoning. As for Harry Reed's bogus claims about the GOP being the party of NO I would hope that it will always be the party of NO when it comes to overly expensive half-baked legislation being rammed quickly down our throats. |

You meant the bluest of the blue, right? If healthcare gets broken down into incremental bills then you may see Brown cooperate with the Dems. - Quote :

How do you "give and take" with a party that has Senators that say things like “I love gridlock, I think we’re better off when we’re gridlocked because we’re not passing things.” Tom Coburn R-Oklahoma? - Quote :

Yeah, well how do you reconcile the fact that the R's were whining all summer about the bill being too many pages. Now they're crying that it's too little. Meanwhile their own proposal is 1 single page? Welcome back,Mirage. Good to see you.

Yeah, well how do you explain this? Senate Votes 70-28 to Approve $15 Billion Jobs Bill - Quote :
- The Senate today easily approved a $15 billion Democratic plan to try to spur job creation, as lawmakers hastened to demonstrate that they were taking steps to improve the nation’s employment picture.
The vote was 70 to 28. Thirteen Republicans joined 55 Democrats and two independents voting in favor. So quite a few of the Republicans who voted against cloture actually supported the provisions in the bill. Any way you slice it, this indicates that the GOP was actively trying to block a non-controversial bill for the sole purpose of gaining a political "advantage." In any another context, the GOP could be charged as extortionists for their behavior. It looks like Reid has finally discovered the "magic bullet" that will hold the Republicans accountable for their actions. Look for Reid to continue breaking legislation up into smaller chunks in order to get some legislation passed. It will make it a whole lot tougher for the Republicans to explain why they are blocking critical legislation.

I think the lesson here is that while Americans say they want change, too much of a dose at once scares them. 2000 page bills were simply frightening to them

Welcome back,Mirage. Good to see you. Yea I meant blue. Still seems to me they made the colors backwards. lol The current 3 forms of this are indeed way too out there. There are parts that could get bipartisan support and pass in a week so why not just pass those parts and let's move on to something else like stripping spending and entitlements. The CBO refused to even score Obama's plan because it was way too costly and failed to fully address funding for it. None of these proposals even address hospital costs that I can see. And how do homeless people avoid jail time for failing to buy insurance? The taxes could start as early as this year while the benefits don't start for years to come, yet apparently it would still be underfunded and require additional massive funding. How are we better off passing that? You may want to nitpick at some quotes but the fact remains that these 3 proposals just plain suck and fail to deliver. |

Look for Reid to continue breaking legislation up into smaller chunks in order to get some legislation passed. It will make it a whole lot tougher for the Republicans to explain why they are blocking critical legislation. As it put it on the other board: What kills me about this tiff is that when the actual vote came didn't it pass with 73 or so yes votes? I just saw it briefly on a crawler. So why is it fair to object to the cloture vote but not be more critical of those who turned around and actually voted in favor on the bill itself? I gather the turnaround is because they don't want to go on record as being against job creation even though this bill will probably do little good in it's current form to justify the cost, which is my objection to it. |
