How does this save money, when the cops make more per hour?

I think this is a tragedy firing these people with no notice, no severance pay. It makes no sense money-wise and crime-wise to have the police take their place. There could be more cuts made within the administration to cover this expense. They can pay on their gem of a health insurance plan.

Kudos to Mayor Michelle Qualkenbush for attracting this grocer to occupy the former Dominicks store at 1968 Sibley, just 2 blocks east of the Sibley exit on the Bishop Ford. This is an area that has been under served in grocery shopping for quite a while, and overcoming the usual restrictive covenant clauses that the big chains impose on stores that they vacate is usually a difficult task.

I visited the store last week and was very impressed. Pete's is a small chain with an emphasis on Latino ...

By Roz Varon

July 21, 2009 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- More lane closures are in store for drivers who use the Bishop Ford Freeway.

Work on the Bishop Ford has been under way since May, from Martin Luther King Drive on the north to 159th Street on the south.

Up until now, the majority of the resurfacing job on the Bishop Ford has been done overnight, with little daytime disruption to traffic. That is about to change. Next week, crews will begin closing one lane in each direction ...

EDITORIAL: We pick Cap for Calumet City mayor

| Friday, April 03, 2009

The ballot doesn't reflect it, but Calumet City voters have a choice to make in the mayor's race. Incumbent Mayor Michelle Markiewicz Qualkinbush faces write-in candidate Pam Cap.

It's a difficult choice, but only because neither candidate is exactly what is needed for the changing city.

To her credit, Qualkinbush has been working on the mess she inherited when her predecessor was ...

I'm not too surprised and I base that on a couple of reasons that stood out for me. 1)Turnout was low. That almost always favors an incumbent. 2)Prior to the election I saw a significant number of signs for incumbent Alderman candidate Cyndi Pallick. (hmm, there goes my incumbent theory ) Those were usually accompanied by a separate sign for Pam Cap. Since Pallick lost by a landslide and she was actually on the ballot,I knew this wouldn't bode well for Cap.

April 7 is when the voters in Illinois 5th Congressional district will vote for a new representative to replace Rahm Emmanuel, the President's chief of staff. Here are a few of the comments that Rosanna Pulido, the Republican candidate has posted on a message board over the years. Interestingly, other posters on that board chipped in and encouraged this kind of ignorant discourse. All I can say to the Republicans is keep voting for people like this, you are really helping the liberal cause.

Make that new Chief (Gilmore) earn his money. Get them on the street and into the homes of the taxpayers and residents who still care. In other words "get off your fat ass and do something".
